Had Ruff said to Scott: go out there and attack that kid and rub it in their face, then it would be gloating and classless. But Ruff was doing his job of protecting his players just in case. Made a statement if you will.

Think of this: had the Bruins attacked in the final seconds (not saying they were going to, just saying what if) and Ruff had done nothing, Then Bruins fans would say how good it was that the team didn't go down without a fight, about how "you don't come in here and do that at our house", and how the Sabres are the weakest team in the NHL and we as a city should feel ashamed. The media would be all over it saying "the Sabres are spineless and are a bunch of pansies (I hear Don Cherry and Barry Melrose saying that as I type it) and blah blah blah. This way no one fought, no one got hurt, and we had to watch 30 seconds of a timeout instead of a possible 5 minutes of goonery.

In reality, no harm, no foul, not worth getting upset about. Great game to watch, fun day indeed, and my blood pressure hadn't been that high in days. Until we meed again Bruins fans, Good Night and good luck.

It's only 1 game but that is what happened last night.

John Scott 'poked the bear' and then turned to the Bruin bench with his number 1 finger up calling out every other Bruin on the bench after beating down Thornton as if to say , 'that's 1 next' ?

Any way was a great game to watch Bruin fan and Ty. I will be at the next game these 2 teams clash next Sunday here at 7pm. I will have a teddy bear in hand.

I applaud Ruff for not taking a chance that Mcdermid scraps it up with seconds left, leaving the Boston media the chance to continue their chorus of "Buffalo can't protect themselves and are an embarrassment". Ruff’s timeout a punk move that he’d surely cry about

With the B’s throwing Lane MacDermid out there to round out the disappointing loss, Ruff saw an apparent mismatch given the fact that he threw one of his ‘skill guys’ out there for the next faceoff, and decided to call a timeout to get John Scott out there.

There were less than 15 seconds to go. In a three-goal game.


Really? Do you really not understand why he called a time-out? He called a timeout because he saw USELESS MacDermid out there for the last faceoff and didn't want his players getting jumped. I read your stuff and when things don't go your way, you take the Boston way and act a bit classless.

hey this was actually a pretty good write up. after reading marchand's comments i dont think its that big of a deal but yes it will get blown way out of proportion. the whole problem was that marchand had a few big moments of disrepect last season, so he should've just let it be. yelling at leino from the bench. the max suspension for the low blow on sami salo. not to flood your blog with sabres clutter and i mean no disrespect i just wanted to find out why boston fans were upset with the timeout.

As a long time fan of Chara back to his Islanders days, I was pretty disappointed he didn't at least make a stand against Scott. I know you don't want to lose a Norris candidate against a goon, but after that monster beat down in the first period, I was hoping Chara would step to Scott as he is the only one comparable in size. Chara was a -3 and looked awful all night. What is up with him this year?
