I like him too, I would just prefer the Flyers look for someone younger. The Flyers seem to enjoy the over 35 d-man on the downside of their career. - ggunky
Agreed. That's a premium cost, though. |

I'm not a team, nor did I claim anyone, nor am I a troll, nor am I trying to be funny, nor am I your son. I was just pointing out that I did not like the line combos tonight. You, sir, are down right rude. - The_Universe
Truth be told, I'm not crazy about 'em either. |

Agreed... just extremely difficult to acquire a young puck moving D that can also be a realiable QB on the PP. Teams and GMs keep those guys or ask for the world in trade talks.
Streit is 35, but if we can get him for free in the summer (ufa) or via trade pick/prospect this season, we keep our core youngs guys and get much needed help.

As a free agent, ok. I just don't want them to trade a second round pick or something of value for a move that is specific for this year only (A guy on an expiring contract like Streit).

Homer wouldn't do that .... before trading a pick/prospect for Streit, he would try and get the 'okay' from the Isles to talk to Streit's agent and setup a mutual agreement on contract lenght and money. He isn't the type to invest in the rental business I would think. |

Luke Schenn was a good calculated risk and acquisition. I think Homer's mistake was letting Jagr go. Jagr's presence inspired this team. Even Vets like Hartnel went all gooey and got fired up to play next to an NHL Great like that. This is still a very good team, but they have have to get focused. Jagr brought morale that was worth way more than his minutes or goals. - flyler
At some point you have to take off the training wheels so to speak. How long do you keep a 40 year old player around to inspire the team? Sooner or later these players are going to have to inspire themselves and take over the mantle. Keeping Jagr is only delaying that process. And if growing pains have to happen, better now then later and putting it off. They also have to find out who is in the core, and who isn't. Such as this is Voracek's 5th NHL Season. Time to step up and bust out.

very early obviously, but just as a hypothetical: out of the available defensemen scheduled for free agency this summer, which one do you think should be the flyers prime target? (assuming no one is resigned) |

I wonder if a guy like Ghost will be ready for a few call-ups next season.
It would be nice to have a guy who could help creatively on the PP. |

Yes for preseason, maybe for a 5 game tryout if injuries and his play warrant it, but I really would like to see them sit on him and develop him with at least a full year in the AHL. Been a while. |

How close is Erik Gustafsson to returning? Also do we need to send a player down to call him up? |

I would too. Even for 2 years. I dont think the expectations are that high for him so I'd leave him down in the minor leagues longer to get the most out of him once he gets to the NHL, so to speak.
I really liked Bourdon when he played, sucks about the injuries. |

Gus played in the Phantoms last game, and I believe he's playing tonight...probably going to get a handful of AHL games to get up to speed before a recall |
