agreed ... he seems to be missing a little of something. Seems just a little soft around the edges.

Still I think B is safe because L seems to be playing good hockey. (well, outside of that one play tonight).

- FlyerGuy

I thought Luke Schenn had a poor overall game tonight. The defense as a whole was poor. Same for Grossmann. Both he and Schenn have played well all year. Not tonight.

I was talking to people on twitter today, blogger types and such, and one said something that makes more sense to me now than it did earlier.

Considering all the efforts Holmgren made to add guys this summer, do we really think this is the team he wanted?

I highly doubt it, If the Flyers added Weber or even Parise this summer the team looks completely different

In a shortened season 2-6 is pretty horrible

So what is the answer as the six dman right now? Just roll with a guy who sucks?

Foster made a nice under control pass to Read to set up the Flyers second goal, and like you said he has a good shot.

Lilja does nothing well. Absolutely zero.

Honestly, Erik Gustafsson had an assist tonight for the Phantoms...he'd top my list

Yep, give the guy a shot, he'll certainly bring more to the table than Foster has.

Nope, and that is why changes are a coming. He will not ride this thing out and hope to do well in the lottery. Heck, Bryz has been playing well enough that this team should be better. The forward play has been abysmal - bad decisions in the neutral zone and lack of hustle. Did I say changes are coming?

The problem could be Lava. This young team could have written him off.
- LJF

I always thought Lava was pretty good with the younger guys, giving them a lot of ice time. At least, as opposed to a coach like Hitch.

the scary part about a coaching change is who would be brought in. I'm afraid of some of the names Homer might consider.

Lilja can play much better then he did in that game. It was his first game in how long? He is a part time veteran defenseman. I'll take Lilja over Foster any day. But expectations have to be realistic. This is what happens when you have injuries. You have to play players like Foster and Lilja.

It was a personal shot at another poster, you should take that as a warning.

That's the whole team. When Giroux looks like crap and is barely noticeable, there is a bigger issue at hand. I can't get on Voracek or Schenn for being invisible when one of the best players in the league is playing the same.
- psuhockey

Fair point. But Voracek, for the most part, isn't being matched up against the other teams #1 D pairing and the other teams top checking forwards.

Do I want to see more out of Giroux, yes. I want to see more out of everyone that puts on the uniform, but I also understand that teams go through ups and downs. Clearly they have started the season on a down slope.

I do see Giroux taking that extra stride though, to make a play (like stopping OV from scoring on the empty net). I don't see that same want from Voracek.

With as short of a season as this is, do they just ride this out and get a good draft pick if they suck?

No. I think he knew he would have too many kids playing bigger roles then they were ready for, just like in 2007. Any injuries and this team was sunk.

Yeah, if he's healthy I give him a shot. But no way should Lilja dress ahead of anyone. Foster, Gusty, Manning, etc.

He's played 2 or 3 games now, I'd assume the rust is off.

The thing that bugs me is, the way Couturier played last year, I didn't expect him to be as bad in his own end as he has been this year

Coots has made bad decisions, but what happened to Coburn? His decision making has been brutal, I expected so much more this season.

I know I just throwing stuff up maybe something will stick. This season sucks so far and they just seem lost. I'd like to be positive, but there just seems to be no life to them.

Honestly with the issues the team currently has, it is really pointless to worry who the sixth dman is.

The Flyers are going to likely have to use McGinn on a wing with Giroux. Think about that for a minute. A guy who wasn't even on the radar a few weeks ago is going to be playing on the top line.

Nothing against McGinn I love what I have seen from him.

Same with Timonen. Most of the vets that didn't play have rust, but Coburn and Timonen look like the Titanic.

Sophomore slump. Richards went thru the exact same thing. He couldnt defend to save his life after being very good his rookie year.

Well if Simmonds can't play tomorrow I bring up Gustafsson and Wellwood. Putting Shelley or Sestito in the lineup is a waste of a uniform.

Regardless of how bad, or good things get, I will only be pissed if they move their first rounder.
