Any thoughts on what we would have to give up for Bouwmeester? Calgary is an absolute mess, and I can't see them delaying a rebuild any longer with Iggy and Kipper getting close to UFA. I will say, I am far from being sold on J Bo, but would he help the speed and puck moving ability of the D? If it wouldn't cost the farm, I would consider it. - Hextall271
My guess would be something like Voracek, maybe him and a pick/prospect package. They'd probably ask for Schenn or Couturier first |

I'm almost more interested in Iginla. He'll be a UFA this offseason so you won't have to worry about his cap hit next year. Bouwmeester would not be a bad option depending on the price (and hopefully Calgary eating some of his cap hit ) . |

the organization needs to start building through the draft and stop trading for these 35ish Dmen who are slow as molasses |

Meszaros is a good player, not a stud. Kimmi Timonen is a stud and has been his while season. Meszaros is gonna have to come back, show.he hasn't lost a step before anyone would consider taking him, especially at his price tag. So I stand by my point, nobody would touch him right now. - SuperSchennBros
Timonen has not played well at all this season, very likely because he had not played since last May.
Meszaros, prior to his shoulder injury, was playing very solidly-especially for a guy coming off Achillies surgery. |

One question. How quick are you willing to rise that goalie carousel, after over 15 years of riding it? I think Bryz buyout depends on what he does this season. Simple. I give you Briere but I wouldn't do it, unless we have a guaranteed replacement. |

My first option would probably be a strong effort to get a younger defenseman. I like Bouwmeester, at least conditionally, but he wouldn't be my prime target |

The Flyers raised ticket prices coming out of a lockout and drew a record crowd in their first home game. Those ramifications don't mean jackpoop - Jsaquella
Your're right for better or worse. It all depends on the prism your looking through. If I was a young buck I'd be anxious to get this thing started with all forgiven. But as an old coot, I've become cynical and less willing to forgive. Hey, I'm not the demographic anymore. |

I don't know who the top 5 are. I don't know who would make the trade. I'm sure Homer has an idea. My only point is that a GM shouldn't rule anything out. - 2731color
Right, and the solution on the powerplay is that they should SHOOT! SHOOT! |

In free agency this summer, Niklas Backstrom, Jimmy Howard and Mike Smith will all be UFA. That doesn't include other goalies that may get compliance buyouts.
That said, I'm not saying that Bryz will get bought out this summer. In fact, I think it's as likely as not that the Flyers may wait until the summer of 2014 with at east one of their buyouts. They have two years to use the compliance buyouts, so there' no rush.
I have absolutely no desire to buy out Bryz for hockey reasons |

I agree that I wouldn't want to go through "musical goalies" again but I think there may be some cheaper options for proven NHL starters if they decide to buy Bryz out. I love Bryz but I totally understand where Jsaq is coming from in regards to the financials. We can also use the buyout in the Summer of 2014 as well.

Flyers don't really have the salary to shed to make such a deal work, imo. |

I root for the Flyers. I want a Stanley Cup, but at the same time, I'm not demanding one, and I'm a coot myself
When they traded Richards and Carter, it made them less likely to win an immediate Cup. Trading Giroux now or making massive changes probbly makes the wait even longer. |

I would love Jimmy Howard. I would stay far far away from Mike Smith though. He has only played well in Phoenix's system and ours is nothing like that. |

My bigger concern with Smith is his health. He's been healthy for a full season once in his career as a starter.
If the Flyers don't straighten out things soon, there's likely to be a new system |

Well, you're implying that the Flyers failure to win a Stanley Cup in thirty-whatever years is due to them being unwilling to... um... trade franchise players for... um... something? It's unclear what you're calling for here. I certainly don't see any reason to say the Flyers are too hesitant to trade for what they want/need, they've aggressively pursued whatever it is they desire relatively often.
As for the sarcasm, I see no need to qualify it. |

have we traded for Ryan, Iginla, Bowmeister, and Yandel yet? Have we used out buyouts on Walker and Giroux yet? Have we fired Lavy and made Cote coach yet? |

Bryz played fairly well in Anaheim and had multiple good seasons in Phoenix. Smith has only had one good year in his career. He's got bad numbers so far this year. |

I agree with that but it seems like they want to run a more offensive minded system (not quite as run and gun as Lavy's system is perceived to be). I mean, with Giroux, that makes some sense. |
