Bryz played fairly well in Anaheim and had multiple good seasons in Phoenix. Smith has only had one good year in his career. He's got bad numbers so far this year. - NickTheKid87
Bryz has never posted a save % above .910 outside of Phoenix. That's below average. |

Good point. I guess it's mostly hindsight bias with Bryz playing so well so far this year. I'm just not sold on Smith, especially with his health as Jsaq pointed out. At least Bryz has been relatively healthy in his career. He's more proven than Smith I guess you could say. |

Can't we save a buy out for the summer of 2014? That's when I would use it on Briere. |

Well, you're implying that the Flyers failure to win a Stanley Cup in thirty-whatever years is due to them being unwilling to... um... trade franchise players for... um... something? It's unclear what you're calling for here. I certainly don't see any reason to say the Flyers are too hesitant to trade for what they want/need, they've aggressively pursued whatever it is they desire relatively often.
As for the sarcasm, I see no need to qualify it. - BulliesPhan87
I wasn't implying that at all. My only point, whether you agree or disagree, is that everything sould be on the table. Hey, no argument, the Flyers aren't hesitant to agressively pursue what they want. I question the moves sometimes but their heart is in the right place. |

Contracts being equal, I'd take Bryz over Smith as well. |

I guess I just don't understand the need to, on one hand, claim the Flyers should keep everything on the table (which it seems they do judging by their aggressive GMing, a point you just agreed with me on); then, in the very same breath, criticize their failure to win a championship. I mean, what else is a fellow to infer when you juxtapose these two statements next to each other? |

At that point he'd only have a year left though and the cap is set to drop about $6 million this offseason. Tough call. |

Do we know for a fact Corey Perry will come here? I am willing to bet him and Getzlef are a package deal at this point and at a high price - SuperSchennBros
Don't need to know if Corey Perry would come here. That was just an example to illustrate the point I was making. You can't call it a set back to buy out Briere until you see what they do with the money. |

That's when it'll get interesting. The Flyers will have about $8mm to spend under the $64.3mm cap. However, that is without replacing Timonen, having no backup goalie and only 11 forwards that have seen action with the team this year under contract.

@jsaq
One question. How quick are you willing to rise that goalie carousel, after over 15 years of riding it? I think Bryz buyout depends on what he does this season. Simple. I give you Briere but I wouldn't do it, unless we have a guaranteed replacement. - SuperSchennBros
His regular season production wouldn't be all that hard to replace at a much lower cap hit than his.
His playoff performance speaks for itself but so does the lack of Cups.
I'd be more than okay with a buyout of his contract. |

I thought it was that he'd be unlikely to be asked to waive his NMC.
Technically, the Flyers could be OK without buying anyone out this summer. |

That's not really fair. That's a team award. Nobody ever blames Briere (because he shouldn't be) for his team being eliminated. |

big game tonight and a must win.interesting stat i heard last night.last year at the 40 game mark every team who was 5 pts or more out of the playoffs didnt make it.that is crazy to think that no team could reduce a 5 pt lead with 40 games to play |

And then the summer after is when G, Schenn, Coots and Read become RFAs (save Read who'll be an UFA). |

That was pre-amnesty and pre-cap dropping, however. It's something they may have to consider under the new system.

The point is, he's very likely a Flyer until his contract is up.
Bryz is likely the only decision. Does he play well enough to warrant another season and re-evaluate the buyout option in the summer of '14? |

Right. And I didn't blame him. My point was that even with "Mr. Playoffs" they didn't win a Cup. Making him all the more eligible for a buyout imho. They can just as easily not win a Cup without him. However, his money could be spent elswhere making the team better overall.

If that means getting Perry they would...Looking at stats Perry hasnt been too bad in the playoffs either. Perry and Getz are going to get longterm contracts and when Briere is done who knows what would be available in FA at that point. |

I still think both options remain on the table, strictly due to the financials and the upcoming FA status of Giroux, Schenn, Couturier & Read. |

Am I the only one that wonders why we gave Simmonds almost 4 mil? Dont get me wrong I love his game and what he brings but that seems a bit high for his skillset. |
