something needs to be done the system is not working i no we are missing players but something has to click , Luke schenn blew it on the 3rd goal last night and screened his goalie on the 2nd not good play at all JVR for Schenn is not looking good right now. this team needs a spark to get them going i am not sure what it is but something is needed Lavy has to get this team to produce ... cause we all no who's head will be on the chopping block if he doesn't ( not saying he deserves it).

I already gave you a wonderful clue. Send Couturier ti his place of birth in exchange for a #1 D.
- spatso

You didn't give a single clue. Just repeating the same thing over and over. I'm asking what #1 defenseman the Flyers can obtain right now? What #1 defenseman is available right now?

I think so. OEL is developing into a superstar, a Karlsson type player. Yendle is very good. You might get him for less than Couturier, but probably not.
- spatso

If Holmgren trades Couturier for Yandle. I would immediately call for him to be fired.

And if the Flyers were 7-1, that would still might be true. I've made this point before. NJ Devils went to the Cup Finals last year with Salvador, Volcenkov, Fayne, Zidlicky, Greene, Harrold, Tallinder. Tell me if that is a championship caliber d corps on paper?
- MJL

Good point. I think they fit well in the system and they are reasonably mobile with a goaltender that plays the puck so well that it really helped them out. Got them to the finals. Didn't win it though.

I see the Kings D and say they've got a stud in Doughty with some other good parts.

The obsession to acquire a #1 defensemen has now overtaken the want of a #1 goaltender as the Flyers fans cure all for crappy team play. Lets gut the franchise and get a #1 dmen at all cost so we can be as good as Nashville has been. Giroux is playing so well that he can make p for the lack of depth.

Apples and oranges. Devils play a trap. All the forwards and the D dominate the neutral zone. Do the Flyers have the players to play that style of game? Perhaps. Dale Hunter did it to theCaps last year and they had some success in the second half and in the playoffs. In my opinion, it would be a hockey tragedy to stymie the free flowing play of the Flyers. Would it not be better to give them the Dman who can keep up.

There is no doubt that a dynamic two way player like Doughty makes a world of difference. But tell me where you get a player like that right now? Yandle isn't it! He's a nice offensive defenseman. But he's no where near the level of Doughty, nor is he that #1 that you build your team around for next however many years. Yandle is a better offensive Matt Carle, because he can score goals better. But Yandle is not a better all around defenseman then Carle is. And it's suggested we trade Couturier for him? No thanks.

Call me crazy but the most disturbing part I took from that game last night was during B Schenn's post game interview. Not an exact quote, but he said they were expecting Washington to be tired and not come out with as much jump. He actually pointed out that he knew they got in late to Philly around 2am. That mentality is scary to me. The mindset that they felt they could come out and contribute a typical "Flyer" 30-40 minute effort and still come away with a win.

I dont know, I love the youth of this team and dont want to trade them away for a quick fix or to send a message. But the constant 'coming out flat,' or 'getting outworked by team on a back-to-back' was old last year, let alone this season. There's no excuse for this anymore.

I in no way expected B Schenn, Couturier, etc to have huge years stat-wise, but the floating and lack of intensity is worriesome. These guys played in the AHL during the lockout to stay fresh and came out with no jump to start the year. I want to stay patient but why are they not competing? As Bill said, to kill off a 5-3 PP as well as scoring the 2nd goal last night and not be the team with the momentum on the next shift is inexcusable. There was no reason to not come away with two points last night.

has anyone heard about a possible suspension for the obvious elbow to the head of simmons or is it just going to get brushed under the rug. Schenn got 1 game for a hit that wasn't nearly as obvious as that

Murray will come in as coach and you will see the D tighten up but still no offense

Not apples and Oranges. And that Devils team under DeBoer does not play a trap. They play an aggressive forechecking style that is sound defensively all over the ice. The Flyers have the personnel to play exactly the way the current Devils team plays.

Luke Schenn had a subpar game last night. But before that, he has played very strong all Season. So I don't know how one game makes the trade not look good.
They do need a spark to get them going. But who should they look to provide that? Giroux maybe?

I hope the Flyers tank big and draft Seth Jones. That way I can read how overrated he is and should be traded in his 2nd year before his value drops.

The alarming thing is that it's not just the young players that seem to have forgotten how to play, even the vets are bad. Really Bryz has been the best player and it has to be very frustrating to him.

I said it last night it might just be best to let this season play out. If they suck they suck, the draft is deep this year right?

It's never good to see the team suck, but after waiting out the lockout it is really hard to deal with this play.

It would have to be Yendle. It might cost Couturier plus a lot more to get OEL.

either Giroux or briere they are supposed to be the offensive leaders i no Danny had the wrist injury and may not be 100% but he needs to bury his chances. giroux is getting good chances but not converting. He just seems a little off.

I am sure Giroux is under a little pressure with the C and the way the team is playing, his haircut took away his strength
