Logically I cannot disagree with what your saying. But, my hockey soul rebels. There is so much great young offensive talent on this team. Don't try and turn them into slugs. Get the guy who can support the up tempo game and get the puck up ice so these young race horses can do what they do so well. - spatso
That would be the ideal, but who and at what price?
Do we move one of those race horses to get it done? We won't get anything near what you suggest by moving one of our heavy legged d-men that Homer was so fond of acquiring, so it'd have to be a young forward of value. Do we move youth/potential, or do we swallow hard and take the patient route and see this mess through?
I'm afraid that teams realize our predicament so we'd most likely have to overpay in that situation. |

Have to cut the cord. Young players have to grow up and leave the nest. Have to find out who is the core and who isn't. And if there are lessons to be learned and obstacles to be overcome in the young players development. Let's get it done now. At some point you have to put those player in spots where you're asking them to take a bigger role and see how they respond. Can't do that with players like Jagr around.

The last 3, absolutely. Maybe for OEL, but probably so. But I personally would be looking to keep Couturier, and find another way to get a top defenseman.
But this is fantasy Hockey anyway. Name me a top defenseman that you think is available, and can be traded for right now. You've stated numerous times that Holmgren is going to pull the trigger soon. - MJL
I believe Yendle is available, I think Subban is available as well. I like Yendle, don't like Subban. I think you will see some older players like Brian Campbell come available within a few weeks.

I disagree that it's known that he'll need to be brought out at some point. Here's what will happen if he is. We'll go right back to Goalie being the Achilles heel of the team. If he plays to a high level, you keep him, and build around him. Most important position on the ice - MJL
bryz would have to show me something in the post season, or it's a non-starter. bryz is likely to be retired and dead cap space in the future and that's only worth it witha cup in tow. maybe i'm wrong about the cba here, let me know. this contract is it's own poison pill if i'm right, though. |

Not apples and Oranges. And that Devils team under DeBoer does not play a trap. They play an aggressive forechecking style that is sound defensively all over the ice. The Flyers have the personnel to play exactly the way the current Devils team plays. - MJL
This is spot on. They only score 2 goals a game and need to adapt to their personnel if they are going to start winning games. |

Two or less goals in 7 out of 8 games, and two of the top goal scorers are out.
What makes anyone think this team will start scoring goals with any kind of consistency? The realist in anyone would say they won't.
This team is a mess on so many levels. With a healthy roster this was a boderline playoff team, crippled by injuries in game 8 is a bit ridiculous, but it happens year after year.
Giroux looks like a shell of himself, Timonen looks like an old man. I have no clue what is going to happen in the next few days, weeks..... But there is no quick fix. |

Apparently the asking price for Yandle is very high. Not worth it. I seriously doubt that Subban is available. They just signed him to a very friendly deal. Don't see why they would move him unless they were blown away. And you still haven't told me how the Flyers can get a true #1 defenseman right now.

Bryzgalov has already shown how he can play in the post Season. Bryzgalov being retired and dead Cap space is an assumption. And if he plays well all year, and solidifies the position, why buy him out. They've been looking for a good goalie for how long now. How many Seasons? Maybe they have one now. And there's talk already of getting rid of him. Makes zero sense.

I watched Giroux last night and thought he was playing fine. There is not much support. Put Giroux on a team with a strong supporting D and he rocks. |

I think you answer your own question. This team is a mess on so many levels, and it's not just the injuries. So straighten out some of those messes, and see what happens. This team can score more goals then it has.

Giroux is not playing fine. He is arguably the biggest goat right now. He is coming up small. The Flyers D is not why he isn't producing.

Why in the world would the flyers get rid of Bryz? Who would play goal? I am in the don't panic camp and if this team has to suck this year so be it.
These guys have to learn to play 60-65 minutes every game.
I could see Matt Read, Kimmo, and or Coburn gone if this season crashes and burns. |

I thought I was being clear. I would offer Couturier for Yendle (good contract) straight up. I would stay away from Subban. Montreal dressing room not all that pleased he is coming back, refused to talk to media about it. First time he starts hot dogging Montreal will move him out. Just not a good team player, Flyers should not bite if he is made available.

Couturier for Yandle is an awful deal for the Flyers. You're drastically overrating Yandle. Don't see Montreal moving Subban anytime soon. Montreal management and team leadership will handle that situation. I'd trade Brayden Schenn for either Yandle or Subban.

I think your being unfair and unduly harsh. Giroux may get a lot of attention when the Flyers fail, but he is not getting much support in any zone.

Deal. But take Yendle over Subban. Schenn, a second and a half decent prospect would look really good to Phoenix who are desperate for help at center. |

I don't think I'm being unfair or harsh. If Giroux wants to be that star player, then he needs to raise his game. Fight through that tough checking. I haven't seen many signs of that lately. He is one of the players that the Flyers look to to spark the team. Hasn't done it lately.

Again, according to Bill Meltzer, the asking price for Yandle is much higher then that.

Wholeheartedly disagree. You need players such as Jagr in your lineup and on your bench and in your locker room. If you let all of your younger players grow up at the same time without some guidance, it's a recipe for disaster.
There are so many difficult nuances, both on and off the ice, that both young and experienced players can, and in fact did, benefit from by having Jagr around.

Could be, but asking and getting are different matters. Ottawa got Turris for Rundblad and a second. Schenn in the middle of their first or second line would be a pretty compelling attraction. |

The scary thing about last night is you could make a case that Bryz should have stopped the 3 goal but if not for the 5-10 top quality saves he made in the first period the game would have been over much sooner. He has , by far, been their best player this season to point.
Last season Giroux skated with some combo of Hartnell/Jagr/JVR/Simmonds/Jake.. Tonight he is lining up with MJL and Spatso.. Not using that as an excuse but take that much talent off the team and goals are going to drop off..
So many things are wrong right now with Bryz being the only thing that is not wrong. You can change Lavi if you want but to what end..OK great Murray takes over , they become more defensive and they only lose 2-1 . Currently the lack of offense is killing them more then anything. If I was them i ride out the storm this season and go hard after Perry. I think that as bad as Couturier looks he will eventually turn around and be what he is supposed to be a 3 possibly 2 line center that can shut other players down. Right now you can see him trying too hard.

ok, so you'll hogtie 5.6 MM to our cap until bryz is 39? he's never been stellar in the plyoffs when he was the #1 guy...and we can no longer bury the $$ in the A. it's def up for debate, for sure. |

Again, why are you all so quick to trade Couturier this season? This isn't a "win now" team. And of all things look how ineffective Weber has been. Through 7 games, 14.5% of the season the guy is carrying a 7.8 million cap hit and is pointless. Include his signing bonus and that is woefully unacceptable for a small market team.
Wouldn't you wanna wait til the season is over and attempt to work a deal out with Nashville again? |
