agreed... maybe you axe him if he straight up sucks this year, but he's played well so far. the problem is the long term ramifications, deal with it at the last possible moment
i think the big candidates for the chopping block this year are briere and coburn (trade in coburn's case, obviously.....don't know the details of his NTC though) - FlyerMike18
I'd be very reluctant to move out Coburn. You don't often find that combo of size and mobility -- and though he is streaky, he can play at a high level for sustained stretches. I guarantee that he'd be the next "OMG, what was Homer thinking getting rid of him?" guy the first time the Flyers would lose a few games next season.
That said, I'd consider trades for anyone on the team except Giroux or (barring a franchise defenseman coming back) Couturier.

Doesn't need to be a consideration now. It was mentioned simply because it was part of the new CBA. Now it's being championed by some as if a buyout of Bryz is a must. I don't see it that way. And talk right now of needing to buyout Bryzgalov is premature. - MJL
bill mentioned it for his reasons, not yours and if you'll remember back several posts, you agreed with most of my original assessment, which essentially recommended patience and cited limited opps for mgmt in-season. obvi that bryz is playing well right now, but from a mgmt stndpnt, it's a horrid contract fraught with risks the team might not want to endure. |

His clause is a modified NTC. Don't know the specifics. He is another player that needs to pick up his game. He had some offensive opportunities last night. Couldn't get the puck to the net. - MJL
yea... i don't hate his game, but if big changes are coming with the vets, he seems like a possibility. he'd probably fetch a nice return |

yea...i don't want to suggest that he "needs to go" or anything like that. i just have a hard time believing that holmgren will be sitting on his hands if this goes south. and i think coburn is the kind of player that becomes a trade candidate in that (not saying "this" yet) situation |

It only becomes a horrid contract filled with risks if the player doesn't play well. Goalies play well into their upper 30's on a regular basis. If he plays well for the majority of the contract, then it's not a horrid contract. In fact if he plays to a high level for the next 5 years, his Cap hit is a steal. I'm going to let it play out. Rather then state that a buyout of Bryzgalov is "essential". |

Based on Bryz's track record with Phoenix and here.. last year was prob the anomaly and this year the norm.. If that's the case and hecan give a few more good years, then his cap hit will have been a steal and the organizational stability at the position will make it even more worth it. |

Yeah but that's way too logical on your part. |

Time for Giroux to get his poop together and lead with the right "style" of play to right this ship. The low percentage cross-ice passes @ the blue need to stop now. If Pronger was still on the team he would've pinned Giroux's ass to the wall days ago. Go to the net and get greasy, this starts w/Giroux. Guys like Voracek, Talbot, Schenn, hell even Fedotenko need to step up a bit here with the injuries. I'm not asking 3rd & 4th line players to pick up ton of scoring but FFS be hard to play against and God forbid create a chance or two. These guys can block shots, hit, grind, do something to piss off the other team. |

It is comical to me that in one breath Flyers fans are lamenting that the organization never drafts and develops defensemen and than in the other are ready to trade 2nd year forwards for pennies on the dollar because they are struggling when forwards typically have a much faster learning curve than defensemen. If the Flyers drafted Jones, he would be labeled a bust by his 2nd year and fans will cry they didn't draft Druon. - psuhockey

Just goes to show how much Brayden Schenn needs to get his poop together. A 40 year old Knuble and Tye McGinn are in the top 6 and he's not. |

Why the (frank) is everyone talking a trade of couts or Schenn??? (frank) it you guys think they can compete for a cup with one defenseman???at this point I don't think even weber gets this team to the playoffs this season anyway. Time for the flyers to be sellers because they're depth on defense is (frank)ing terrible... Trade timmo and briere if you can |

Schenn definately needs to step his game up but being on the second line may not have as much to do with his play as balancing the lineup. |

So the whole team is in a slump at the same time if they can turn it around in time this might be a good thing. Slump now, hit full stride going into the playoffs. |

You'd have to get Anaheim to allow you to talk to the player or agent before making the deal. Doesn't really happen in the NHL. I see it as a huge mistake to trade Couturier for a pending UFA. - MJL
I dont disagree but I know their are people crying for trades just like they do "shoot" non-stop on the powerplay.

Study the 2013 draft class........I am going that way, any move they make now will likely cost too much & may not help do much in the long run.
I sit tight, keep my picks & be overjoyed with this draft which is DEEP. |

I'd say only one way to go from here, up. If they stay the same they are in the tank. |

This is definitely not the season to be bringing in temporary help, not at the cost of draft picks. |

Have no problem going that route. I would like to see where this team is after another 10-15 games. |
