Both would be 35+ deals. I'll pass.
- MJL

This team doean't need any additional 35+ contracts.

Siemens and Stefan Elliot.

Untouchables in your view?

- flyer_nutter

I'd think they might be but if the offer is again high enough or somebody wants to overpay they'll be moved.

Right now, the Flyers have a few interesting kids in the college ranks. Gostisbehere is the most often mentioned, but they also have a 2012 draftee named Reece Willcox, who Bill has mentioned a few times as well as Mark Alt, who was acquired in the Boucher trade. The system isn't barren, but the guys that have promise were not guys who were top rated heading into the draft.

But you can get good defensemen later on, it is not uncommon.

Nick Cousins is looking good to for a third rounder.

Pens get burned by a lucky bounce. Carlson dump in hits the stanchion, Vokoun blows a tire behind net and it ends up in.

crazy bounce.

Both have a ton of potential. I'm not sold that they will ever reach it. That might seem like the same thing, but it's really not.

There's potential and the probability of the player fulfilling that potential.

I am saying that he is always injured and you can not count on him for a 48 or 82 games season. All players will have an injury now and then but with Mez you can bet on it and reserve a room in a nearby hospital. He had the one good year here just like he had one good year in Ottawa, then took the big money and did little for it in Tampa.
- flyerdude17

He is still fairly young, and no doubt his injury history is a concern. But if he can get healthy, he's a good solid top 4 defenseman.

It's true I remember during the draft year of Duncan Siemens he was being raved about and it's felt he has still years to go in his development

I don't think that Holmgren missed his opportunity to land Subban. Montreal was not trading him. If he was dealt to another team, then you'd have a point. But he wasn't traded and is still a Hab.
- MJL

I agree but is Couturier was offered before Subban actually played it may have been possible. After watching Subban slowly work his way back with team mates if was unreal the cheering he received on the ice. The one pp he was on he one timed a rocket off the post. Sorry but I love Subban for the way he skates, shoots and hits.

Nope, but it's simple logic.

Say there's a guy with a ton of talent, but a lousy work ethic. It's easy to project that he'll have a rough time making his great potential into being a great player.

Subban is a good young player, with boatloads of talent. I'm sure that Montreal's phone rang off the hook from teams asking about Subban. There is no indication that Montreal was willing to move him. Unless they got a deal then couldn't refuse. I would not trade Couturier for Subban.

Not for Couturier. Yandle is as very good offensive defenseman, who is adequate in his own end. I don't think he's a Pietrangelo/Karlsson level player.
- Jsaquella

Agreed, Yandle is not a Karlsson, Pietrangelo, or Subban. Yandle is a better than average dman and his defensive play is getting better but still only average. Ekman-Larsson on the other hand is elite at both ends.

The Flyers were apparently unwilling to move Schenn/Coots for Weber.

Would they be willing to do so for OEL?

Ekman-Larsson is a beauty. He's going to challenge for Norris trophies for a long time.

I like Couts very much (so much that I traded Spezza and Michalek straigh up for Couturier and Hartnell in the off season in a keeper league, done that with my flyers heart and the fact down the road I think Couter can be a Spezza) That being said I would trade Couts straight up for Subban. Subban would be as popular as Giroux, I guarantee it! (Money back guarantee )

To be honest if he is available I break the bank to get him.

If you can start building off a core with Giroux, OEL and Bryzgalov that is championship quality.

For the hell of it today's draft eligible profile will be Adam Erne - Québec Remparts (Currently ranked the 2nd best US born prospect for the 2013 NHL draft)

With all due respect MJL I think if you watched every game Subban plays like I do you would soon love this kid. (I am pretty good at multitasking, I somehow manage to watch the best parts of several games at the same time, ie commercial breaks etc, powerplays
Seriously I watch parts of almost every nhl game daily, I am sick!

Popularity among the fans isn't an issue as far as I'm concerned. And not a factor in making a trade. If I'm going to trade Couturier, it has to be for a more established player then Subban.
