It is when you don't have a lot of Cap space. I don't think it's a bad move, as much as I want to aim higher. - MJL
I would love to aim higher also but then we need to give up even more. Plus who knows if a better player becomes available. The Flyers need to add a defenseman at some point bc Timmonen is pretty much done after this season. |

Gotcha!
But look how well McCarthy and Gorence turned out? - MJL

If the Flyers buyout Briere; who at a more reasonable cap hit could replace his regular season production? - jstross
I think if you're buying out Briere, you're doing it to aim higher then a player with a more reasonable Cap hit.

Perry or Getzlaf.
If one becomes available. I want the Flyers to be offering up Snider's testicles. - flyer_nutter
I think they want Perry to pair with G in the worst way. |

That's my whole point. Do we want to add just whatever we can get? Because Yandle is not a replacement for Timonen. Or be patient and see what else becomes available.
There are some Free Agent offensive defenseman available as UFA's. I would only be interested in short deals with them. And don't know if they would be willing to do so. |

You're right. Defenseman are at a premium. But there will be better players available at some point in the near future. I want to add an all situations player. Not a PP offensive specialist. I know it's going to be tough to find. - MJL
Didn't you just see the kick save Yandle made in the crease against the Wild tonight? I think he is more then just a power play guy, but I understand your point. |

True unless it gives you the cap space to get that #1 defenseman. All these moves need to be done with a broader vision in mind, IMO of course. |

I'm only talking about adding Yandle for Schenn (who im not a believer in). Not sure Phoenix would even make this deal anyways. |

My last statement was misleading. He is a very good ES puck moving offensive defenseman also. Not just a PP specialist.

Bottom line is that in order to get value, you need to give value. I'm not opposed at all to trading B Schenn in the right deal. I just don't think Yandle is the right player. - MJL
on this we agree. yandle is not good enuf in his own zone. |

With Kimmo coming off the books, plus two buyouts potentially available, I would think offer sheeting OEL is certainly a possibility. Its not like the Flyers have been opposed to using the offer sheet method in the past.
If the league still owns the Yotes by free agency, it could get very interesting for the services of OEL. |

I will say this. I think a lot of us believed JVR had a higher value.
If I am another team and the Flyers are offering up Schenn, I'm not jumping off of my seat. He is a good young player with potential, but there is a reason why most teams ask for Coots instead. |

My point is why do others franchises have them, and the Flyers don't? What are we chalking this up to bad luck? Just named 12-15 franchises who have had legit young studs on their blueline, without even researching it. It is rare yes, but I see other teams doing it. - PLindbergh31

I'll be surprised if OEL doesn't get re-upped before reaching RFA.

I think Yandle gets a bad wrap in his own end. He's not as bad as many think when playing in his own end. Is he great? Certainly not. He is good enough to get the job done IMO. He's been improving every year in his own end. |

No question. Not that B Schenn doesn't have value. But teams are going to ask for Couturier in return for a top player from their team.

Probably bc Couturier is a better player. I'm not a believer in Schenn. He shows flashes every 1 out of 10 games for me. |

The Flyers have always been a team that utilized a deep defense corps, rather than having an out and out stud-excepting the Mark Howe years, although even then they had Brad McCrimmon, Brad Marsh and, ugh, Doug Crossman. - Jsaquella

His defensive play is average at best. His offensive ability makes up for it. If fans didn't like Carle's play in his own end. They're really not going to like Yandle. Turns the puck over more then Carle does. And his physical game is non existant. He is significantly less physical then Carle is. And he certainly doesn't block shots as well as Carle does. |

I would take Yandle over Carle but thats just me. Once again I just feel the Flyers need an offensive defenseman (have a threat from the point). |
