Way to many goalie turned annalist's moaning and whining about goalie interference you want to come out of your crease expect contact. I'm not say they need to get drilled but if you want to take more ice than your given you should have to fight for it like the rest of the players on the ice. BTW Kevin Weeks, Kelly Hrudey and Glenn Healy need to_______. - thundachunk
Oh, a fill in the blank! This should be good.
I'm going to go with the diplomatic "kindly refrain from expressing their asinine opinions."
You left out the most infamous goalie interference call, the one where there was no contact, and goalie interference was called. see here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rs4p3GgyE24 - jpl0219
The rule is fine. I especially liked the Boston/TO game where two goals we're called back but no penalties given. I.e. protect the goalies doesn't necessarily mean you call a penalty for incidental contact.
That being said, I would add to the rule. You want to see more scoring without changing the nature of the game? Forget the trapezoidal area. Don't allow the goalies to leave the blue paint at all.
Players stay out, goalies stay in. Keeps them safe and at the same time doesn't allow them to go half way to the blue line to cut down an angle. They might actually have to rely on reflexes to make a save again like the good ole days.
a) Be thankful that the NHL is niche enough over there that the half time show isn't a bigger event than the game. Imagine being the only person at a Stanley Cup Finals party who understood icing. Whatever that thing was supposed t be yesterday, it was more TMZ than NFL.
b) You guys should really have better power infrastructure.
c) Stop trying to sanitize hockey. The media types that dwell only on those times that the Chris Simons of the world step on Jaarko Ruutu really aren't interested in what else is happening on a regular basis. When I was growing up learning about the game, it was understood that if you got too close to the goalie, a man who can military press 480 pounds introduced himself to you.
The way to handle it was then somewhere between the linesmen rushing in to protect Sean Avery from Hal Gill and allowing the game to be turned into a roller derby like the 70s Flyers. While that is a massive gray area, it's one that I feel more comfortable allowing the players rather than the referees legislate.
Anyone else catch the Canucks brass at the DC/Penguins game?
I don't know how many people seen the edmonton vs LA kings game when the reffing was atrocious.. But at the end of the game Sam gagner was shoved into jonothon quick. He wasn't in the crease. but he skate was hooked on quick's pad. They called the goal off there as well. It might not be as blatant as ottawa's but it was a brutal call....luckily yakupov played a bit of baseball later and tied it up anyway!
