There's been plenty of these calls so far this season. The blackhawks beat the Columbus Bluejackets 3-2 on Jan 26th and this game featured a similar play. The Bluejackets scored a legit goal and the referee ruled it off as goalie interference. Now as someone who is both a diehard Blackhawks fan and also somewhat of a gambling addict who had money on the game, I couldn't really complain at the time. It did feel like a hollow victory considering there was no reason why the goal should have been disallowed, the contact between Crawford and the Bluejackets player (forget who it was) was incidental and minor and didn't prevent Crawford from making a save, he just didn't make the save. Ridiculous if this keeps up they need to seriously evaluate these calls and possibly use video review to determine if the referee made the correct call. - Ballam
Correction, there was no contact.

Because two games JUST THIS WEEKEND were impacted by these phantom "interference" calls.
Leafs goal disallowed, lose 1-0.
Ottawa goal disallowed, lose 2-1.
Both goals would have tied the game.
Both games were also divisional. - As_I_See_It
Feel for the Senators but they got a goal on a call that should not have been made and they lost a goal on a call that should not have been made... even's out in the end |

It was a terrible call. As were the penalties against Gorges, Bouillon and White on Wednesday (there were many more on both sides, but I'm trying to make a point). The reffing has become a side-show and that's the problem. The facts are that Ottawa would have likely won anyways on Wednesday because they played a better all-around game and Montreal would have probably won on sunday for the same reason.
What sucks is that the reffing should be something that is never even talked about AND that once again, the NHL's incompetencies is being paid for by who? The fans, who were largely ripped off from two very good 3rd periods in both of the MTL/OTT match-ups this week. |

YES. NHL should strive to not resemble MLB bs. Review important plays; scoring plays. |

I don't recall the Gorges/Bouillon penalties, but the White double minor was quite costly and I can see why a Habs fan would gripe. Montreal likely wins the game yesterday, but it was a game I feel had OT/shootout written all over it; a valuable point was lost. Oh well... |

It's the same thing with NFL quarterbacks and kickers. To much protection. In the name of safety I understand, but how is a goalie different from any other player? (frank), they have more protection then anyone else on the ice. |

How bout get rid of the stupid trapezoid limiting where goaltenders can play the puck? If they do that then I am all for loosening the rules, but as long as the NHL is keeping the goaltenders inside of the crease then the rules should stay the same |

No, the rules are fine. That was not a penalty on Ottawa and it should have been a goal. FYI: I am much more a Hab fan than a Sens fan...but that was a goal.
Plekanec's nonchalent, "oh well, I got pushed a little bit sooooooo I'll just smack into the 'tender a little bit" is 100% a penalty also. He made zero effort to move out of the way, and although he barely scratched Anderson...it's a penalty for the intent and for the disrespect to his fellow NHLPA members, the league, the rules, and especially the officials.
The rules are fine, the refs missed a call that cost the Sens the game probably. |

Yes. The idea that goalies are allowed to come out onto the white ice and totally own that space is absurd. I'm not advocating running them over, but they should expect some incidental contact.
At the very least, they need to standardize the rules formally and introduce some kind of challenge/review system.
In the NFL, every TD is reviewed. I don't see why you can't take 30 seconds to get the call right if you're going to wave off something as important as a goal. - Leeman4Gilmour
If you allow goaltenders to be ran...then you must eliminate the instigator rule and face the consequences, it's that simple. SOMEONE has to protect them.
there is a reason that we pay for pick-up hockey and goaltenders to not. think about it. |

Way to many goalie turned annalist's moaning and whining about goalie interference you want to come out of your crease expect contact. I'm not say they need to get drilled but if you want to take more ice than your given you should have to fight for it like the rest of the players on the ice. BTW Kevin Weeks, Kelly Hrudey and Glenn Healy need to_______. - thundachunk
lol, a Canuck fan trying to argue the physical side of the game with no complaining over bad calls and "having to fight for ice like the rest". lmao Made my night. |
