One of the biggest anomalies is Stephen Weiss. I don't understand how he doesn't score more. It's not like he hasn't had some decent guys around him. |

This.
Furthermore, if Atlanta wasn't pushing to make the playoffs in 2007 and wanted a veteran defenseman (we gave them Alexei Zhitnik), they may never have traded Coburn in the first place. - johndewar
Coburn wasn't unknown to those who followed the draft, but I think it's safe to say that most were not aware of his body of work prior to the trade. |

I couldnt disagree anymore. Sometimes, teams have inside knowledge of certain skill sets, due to supreme scouting. It isnt a secret that Detroit has one of the best overseas scouts in Hakkan Andersson. - jak521
Okay look at it this way. I strongly suspect Damien Brunner will be a star in the league for a long time and he is only getting started. Now if Columbus had signed Damien Brunner would he have ever made it, doubtful. Reason is a talent like Brunner getting a chance to play with Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Franzen on the first pp unit gives him a much better chance to make it.
Example, Fabian Brunnstrom would have had a better chance to make it with linemates like that instead of signing on a crappy Dallas squad for big money. |

Your a pretty negative guy there Jak521 but that is what makes the world go round. I believe Rundblad had 29 points in 30 games this year but he is still 6 years away from his prime
Also, the Briere argument does not fly because in Phoenix he played with Roenick and Tkachuk, a great confidence booster. Unlike Brassard playing with Umberger and IP Nightly. - flyerdude17
Actually Rundblad had 23 points in 32 games this year in the AHL. He's a very talented young player that still needs work in his own end. If the price was not expensive, certainly the Flyers should have interest.
But he's still very raw in terms of being a two way player. |

All hockey fans that know which way is up knew that trade was as dumb as any ever made. Like trading Cam Neely for Barry Pederson.
Atlanta was a joke! |

I don't disagree about awareness of Coburn, but I would dispute he was a "diamond in the rough", talent-wise (as he was originally referred).
He was a very highly regarded talent when he was drafted, given his draft position. Same with Carle.
A couple of examples who probably merit the "diamond in the rough" title would be Dan Boyle and Brian Rafalski (when he played). Neither guy was drafted and both were/are pretty darned good. |

Richards for Simmonds and Schenn. Carter for Voracek and Couturier. The Peter Forsberg meal of Timonen, Hartnell, Upshall and Parent that was served to us on one plate. The Coburn deal. These are creative and crafty deals that Holmgren used to get himself on the map as a top GM in this league. We need one of these if this season bottoms out. As a Flyers fan, homer has put himself in a position for fans to expact the best. |

Thanks for looking him up, I was just going by memory that was off a tad. But I agree and that is why you have to grab him before the rest of the realized what a gem he could be. I say could be but if you do not reach out and take that chance you lose. Every GM should be taking a look at him but also we do not know what Maloeny is asking for him, probably a first rounder or another great prospect. |

I think in the grand scheme of things, Homer has done a fantastic job. You are bound to have a year where pucks don't bounce and players don't produce. Law of averages. Last year players had career years. Talbot for one. I still think this a very good team. They need to move a few pieces and aquire a few more to be cup contenders. This is a big moment for Homer to stand pat. This will test him, but in the end, he needs to understand our future is brighter than our present. |

Considering he's been in 3 organizations now, and is 4 years after his draft, I'm sure other GMs know what he's about. Considering the lockout, and the lack of quality puck moving defensemen, I'm sure he's been heavily scouted.

Steve Weiss took awhile to get going and then usually was hit by the injury bug. I really believe he will be a highly sought after ufa this summer.
Also HB flyer fans, I am not here to argue with anyone just stating my point of view and you are entitled to yours which I respect. Bottom line is all I want and all we all want is the best for our Flyers. So lets take a chance on Rundblad, we really need someone for the pp. PK Subban would have been the star we needed but that ship has sailed. |

Or they could both be used to replace Keith Yandle if the Coyotes have to deal his contract away. |

That being said the asking price is probably quite high and the Coyotes are not giving him away. Sometimes a player that is supposedly on his way out and ends up staying is a godsend, ie Luongo |

Exactly. The last time I checked the Coyotes have 9 nhl dmen in their system. Schlemko seems to have made it (injured last night, shoulder) and Rundblad and Gormley are knocking on the door. But with OEL playing half the game, Yandle and Morris eating up big minutes these kids are going to have to wait or hope for a trade. |
