Exactly. The last time I checked the Coyotes have 9 nhl dmen in their system. Schlemko seems to have made it (injured last night, shoulder) and Rundblad and Gormley are knocking on the door. But with OEL playing half the game, Yandle and Morris eating up big minutes these kids are going to have to wait or hope for a trade. - flyerdude17

I don't disagree about awareness of Coburn, but I would dispute he was a "diamond in the rough", talent-wise (as he was originally referred).
He was a very highly regarded talent when he was drafted, given his draft position. Same with Carle.
A couple of examples who probably merit the "diamond in the rough" title would be Dan Boyle and Brian Rafalski (when he played). Neither guy was drafted and both were/are pretty darned good. - johndewar
Adam Oates went undrafted too
Cory Conacher too
The list goes on, Doug Wickenheiser went #1, Dennis Savard #3 The rest is history |

Actually, one area where Paul Holmgren has certainly been trying plumb for talent has been the ranks of undrafted college players. He scored Matt Read and Harry Z that way. Not all them have worked out as hoped (*looks at Mike Testwuide*), but it can't hurt to look in undervalued areas for talent. |

If I was running the Flyers I would be scouting the KHL for hidden talent or the SEL. Biggest issue is getting them to leave home. That being said a guy like Bobrovsky if he does not steal or earn the job from Mason could return home and be a star, a guy like Rundblad if it does not happen soon could return home and be the best dman in the SEL and play in from of his family. Just sayin |

Wish we could have gotten Rundblad. Dude was moved for an underperforming Kyle Turris. Ottawa also included a 2nd round pick. At the time, Turris only had 19 goals and 46 points in 137 games. Those productions are worse than Eric Wellwood's to the end of last season. Just wish we could thrown some type of package together for him. |

One last thing before the nap. I remember a young swedish hockey player that could not make his nhl team much like the Rundblad situation. He was then sent packing and the rest is history. (Markus Naslund)
Not saying the ending woud be the same but who really knows, nothing ventured, nothing gained. |

Homer preys on low budget small market teams, like a shark in a fishtank - Flyers4Life88
I don't think anyone on here desperately hanging on to hope that Bobby Ryan will end up here much sooner then later is outside of the realm of possibility. This is a good team but a couple things are missing. Homer needs to get these parts by September. By this I also include he shouldn't buy anyone out just because they have a large contract. What good is the space if you there is no guarantee of filling that space. |

Personally, I could swear that Matt Ellison was the final piece of the puzzle for the Flyers.

My point is that with the cap going down (it is supposed to, right?) and nearly all of the young studs up for raises... they are gonna need to do something..
Ian Cole or Shattenkirk would be my first (semi-reasonable) choices. I dont think Pietrangelo will ever leave that team. Future Norris right there.
If the Flyers were able to land one of those two, and maybe sign a guy like Douglas Murray in the offseason if need be.. Id be stoked.
Resign Kimmo (at a wayy lower hit), unless he retires....and voila!

I think Murray is redundant when you already have Coburn, Schenn, and Grossmann. I'd look for a little more mobility.

Oh yes. The Kyle Calder era. I had thought alcohol successfully washed away my memories of that.

One way to look at these transactions is that Rundblad must be a pretty good talent to get those kind of returns. The other way to look at it is he could be a bum, but I doubt it. He is only 22 and has excelled at every level except the NHL todate and I personally believe it is only a matter of time and that is why I would love to see him in orange and black. Our pointmen on the pp is very sad. Believe me Rundblad is an upgrade to the over the hill Timmonen a this point in time. Kimmo is only average now and JV93 is still in Europe. - flyerdude17
I don't doubt the kids talent. But he has done nothing at the NHL level to suggest that he is better the Timonen is any aspect of the game. He can't even crack Phoenix's lineup right now.

Coburn got traded because he was basically a bust in Atlanta and Carle was the beneficary of a very strong offensive team. I love Coburn but do not miss Carle one bit. Carle, however is once again is in a very high powered offense and should do well. Put him in say Columbus and he is a wussy and a bust, always was a wussy. - flyerdude17
A good player is a good player regardless of where he plays. And Carle is a good player.
