The comments themselves were harmless, but with all the attention on the goatending situation right now, he is just adding fuel to the fire. - fiveandagame
Everything is fuel to the fire. It's the guys job to make things better for his client—is he supposed to lock himself in a room and never speak to the media.
I'm at the point where I'm tired of dissecting every little aspect of this situation, and am willing to just let the whole thing play out for better or worse.
The media is just going to continue to print everything that happens like it's a big deal—until a trade is actually made, it's not a big deal—just a team trying to win games. |

AV's the one holding the canisters...
Luongo's been playing great, but does anyone really think he gives us a better chance to beat the Oilers than Schneider? We should beat that team regardless of who's in net. That was an opportunity to give Schneider a game.
AV has always gotten off on making those kinds of controversial decisions and keeping guys in the dog house for an unwarranted length of time... Then by the time he lets them play again, they're rusty and/or have lost all confidence. |

That's BS, he made the right decision based on play of the player. |

Sami Salo has the best +/- in he NHL right now. - boonerbuck
Wonder if he'll win the +/- trophy at the end of the year
Kidding. But really, it's not that meaningful a stat. |

I thought the comments were pretty harmless. He basically said what everybody already knows—Schneider wants the bulk of the games, etc.
Didn't really say anything controversial or inflammatory. Not like Cody and Kesler's agents, who came off far more confrontational. - Fosco
Here's what Gillis said when asked about Schneiders playing time...
"We are conscious of ice time and we have to win games," he said. "We don't have the luxury of peoples' feelings."
Way to go Mike. I bet Cory is starting to feel rippied off on his new contract. He was promised to be moved over the last three years...then was promised the starting job.... and now it comes down to "I dont care how he feels".

He will start, Luongo isn't allowed to play in Minnesota.
Then what happens if Schneider gets a shutout, does he play 5 straight games? - dshiddy
Corey will get 4 or 5 of the next 5 unless he plays like a backup but I doubt it. Both want to be #1 and they are. I think we need to take a step back if they are both not going to be moved I can guarantee they will split the season evenly until the playoffs then it will be who takes the reigns that will determine who stays. One will be moved after the season. Unless the right deal happens that is going to improve the team. If I'm Gillis I ask over payment because moving either goalie for a Bryz or Nab and third liner and a late pic I'm not biting. We know know what we have no matter what the trolls have to say. I say let the team decide who they trust between the pipes and then let MG make his decision on best return. |

Yes, because guys always perform exactly as they did LAST game. What a (frank)ing ridiculous myth. If anything, professionals tend to bounce back when given the opportunity. |

Hey Lefty, you back at work? My brother caught a 21lb white spring on the weekend in Sidney, he was real happy until he had to through back a 45lb halibut. |

This is a waste of a year for Schneider IMO if this continues, you'll see a regression in his game if he doesn't get a ton of games. He's at the point in his career where he needs to make that next step.
Why can't things just be somewhat normal on the left coast for once. |

nice winter spring!! I was scheduled to fly back to the Middle East yesterday, but I delayed my flight for a week because I've got an interview and medical/drug testing for Esso this week. Looking for a new job, tired of the travel. |

Cheering for this franchise gets tiresome on occasion for a guy in his mid 40's. |

Isn't that his job - Canada Cup
His job is to look out for the best interests of his client, but mouthing off to the press when it's clear the GM is having a hard time getting a decent return for the guy ahead of him, is counter-productive. It just makes Gillis's job harder and less likely to resolve the issue in his clients favor.
I also think with Vancouver being in a "Win Now" or maybe a "Win Now At All Costs" because of potential salary cap issues next year and a lack of replacements on the farm for the Sedins if they get injured/decline sooner than expected means that unless we can hit a home run trade-wise, better to let things be. Especially when you realize that it's only 48 games and any and all plans at this point have been FUBARed anyways. |

True, but by that logic we should bench the next guy that gets a shutout and stick with either Lu/Schneider after a game where they get lit up by 4+ goals. Momentum and confidence is a big part of professional sports, it's something that can't be measured by statistics.
AV's job is to win games, not try to worry about agents and trade values and salaries. In fact it's the coaches who try to focus on the long term of their teams that usually get canned, meanwhile the win now at any costs coaches actually end up sticking around. Every fan base complains about coaching decisions, that's because it's impossible to please the fans AND win games. |

Maybe that's his way of opening the door for his client to be the one traded instead of Luongo... Making that statement could result in a phone call or two from previously uninvolved teams inquiring if he's disgruntled & available. Wouldn't surprise me... If I were Schneider I'd be sick of the Gillis/AV circus. He & his agent negotiated & signed an extension with the whole world thinking Luongo had played his last game here. They should be disgruntled. |

I just don't see that as mouthing off. In fact, it was far more polite than I would have expected him to be, considering the situation.
Hell, people/media would try to make something out of this even if he'd said "no comment." |

What if Lu starts, has another solid game, and wins?
This season seems to be a season of firsts for him anyways, starting as the backup, getting to be the hero goalie for once that fans cheer for and pretend that they were always behind him. He was solid against Chicago, he looks better in shotoouts, way less flopping, better with the media/pressure, and now if he wins in Minny.......oh my. |

AV has to Attempt to maintain both Goaltenders respect. Starting Lu five straight after Signing Cory And Naming him the number 1 is straight up disrespectful.
He Has no choice in my opinion. |

My guess is that his client believes that he is the starter of the future and wants that future to be sooner rather than later. He is applying some heat to make sure that is the case. |
