That will probably be the case for my wife when older relatives pass, as well.
We're at the stage where it's more duty visit, and we never really feel welcome. It's always felt like "They're the Jersey people"...but as soon as somebody doesn;t feel like paying rent at a hotel in Cape May for the weekend... - Jsaquella
Well, at least you have us no strings attached internet friends to make you feel welcome. I think that might even be a half-tier up from imaginary friends. |

I'm finally at the point where the aggravation of the extended family visits has worn on the wife, too. We go to NE Pennsylvania for New Year's and Easter, and it's miserable for everyone. - Jsaquella
Both my and the fiance's family have blatantly tried to break the both of us.
Pretty much brought me to a point where I want nothing to do with the majority of both families.
Im the kind of person that holds a grudge. |

Raffi Torres returns from suspension tomorrow. Just happens to be against the Hawks. One would think there would be fireworks. |

Trevor Daley would be a good fit for the Flyers.
He would replace Carle at half the price.
Try and get Jagr or Morrow in that deal at the deadline sending Gus back with Read - bhigh21
That's not a very good deal. And Daley doesn't come close to replacing Carle. |

My issue with Thomas' views was that it became an obvious distraction for his team. That's when I will have issues with the views of Sestito or anyone else on the team or in sports.
Thomas made his views an issue, not just by skipping the White House, but by continually making facebook posts afterwards and then refusing further comment. The burden then fell on his team to answer for him, and that led to distractions. - Jsaquella
If he was an Obama cheerleader and the roles were reversed you'd be screaming about how awesome he is.
Politics are divisive in nature. Its the nature of the beast. As an American he had every right to say and do what he did. Being a goaltender is a career. It doesn't dictate how he expresses his political views. It was only a distraction because of the media made it a distraction. You're issue should be with the current state of our media in this country where reporting the truth is no longer the objective.
They created this distraction to get viewers/readers. I think what he did was the most American thing i've seen from a professional athlete to date. |

I don't get much annoyance from this site. I figure it wouldn't be fun if it were only things I liked and agreed with. Of course, the big X is always available |

No one is arguing that he has no right to say what he wants. The issue is that he put himself before the team. I didn't like how Mike Vick was so open about his support of Obama with Jason Babin and others in the locker room who were staunch conservatives. It can created a lot of issues from a team standpoint.
As for Jsaq, I've followed him on Twitter for awhile now including election day and I've seen his posts on here and I highly doubt that he'd be "screaming about how awesome" a guy is because they support Obama. |

I had a guy in my section who immediately yelled at Coburn for the lone TB goal. But I have to say I am much happier in my new section. Last year I was surrounded by people who I wanted to slap silly |

The bigger point here, is that it's a game. I'd fight just as hard to allow a liberal or a democrat to express their views in the same exact ways.
I do find it funny that people argue about politics. We probably know .01% of the actual intent of politicians and vote on them based on what they say or promise. Goes for both sides. |

We may not know the whole story, and we may not truly be able to call any source unbiased, but apathy won't fix it. Not a good situation, but these're the cards we're dealt.

I agree. All I am saying is that I wouldn't bring up politics at work for fear of alienating or creating friction between me and a co-worker. It's a rule of thumb to stay away from religion and politics. I think this should apply to athletes as well, maybe even more so because of how important team work and chemistry is to success. The rink/locker room is their office. |

Democracy in the US is in a bad place. It's all about getting re-elected which causes politicians to not cross party lines and such so we can't get anything done. |

Not true at all. Michael Vick publicly supported Obama, and I'm counting the minutes until he's gone from the Eagles roster. Conversely, one of my favorite former Flyers, Jeremy Roenick, was a pro-Mitt Romney guy.
Also, I have never once said that it wasn't Thomas' right not to speak his mind. Feel free. I served in the military for four years, in part because I believe in freedom of speech. Regardless of his beliefs or whether or not I agree with them, I fully support his right to express them.
My issue lies with how he decided to exercise his rights. Making a blanket statement on facebook and then refusing to further comment, he left it to his teammates to answer those inane questions. Part of freedom of speech is understanding the consequences of exercising that right and the impact it will have on you and those around you.
I have issues with the media and how it reports things, because in large part the media has helped make politics into the divisive mess that it is today. Blindly partisan commentary by "journalists" on both sides of the political spectrum have tainted the water to the point where it's hazardous to one's health.
That said, it's the way the world is. Thomas should have recognized that his public statements would create a firestorm. Once he made the statements, refusing to comment on them, he opened the door to the distractions the team faced. By continuing to make statements on facebook, without taking questions, he compounded the problem. Notice, I haven't said a single word about the content of Thomas' words or statements.
Next time, before making a blanket statement about how I'd react, maybe you should think twice and then not make the statement at all because assuming how one would respond, without knowing that person is idiotic. |

Nothing will fix it. There's a reason why Jefferson said, "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants" in reference to having a revolution every 25 years (don't know why 25) to rid the government of greed and violation of the peoples rights that accumulate during the course of governments.

Personally, I'm not in favor of resolving our political differences via open warfare. Call me crazy, if you will. |
