Do you guys miss JVR yet? 2 goal game last night - Holy_Makinaw99
I said it at the time of the trade.....love the pickup of Schenn but sorry it was at the expense of JVR. I do know based on how free agency went and injuries to Meszaros, Gus and MAF, it would be very scary right now had they not made the trade |

We'd be in a much worse position with JVR in the lineup over L. Schenn. Of course, Mesz may not get injury had L. Schenn never been acquired per the butterfly effect but another top 6 defender would still be more important to this team, IMO. - NickTheKid87
Even with a healthy Meszaros, having Schenn would mean that Foster's the 7th defenseman. Granted, Foster was pretty solid last night, despite getting burned by Conacher's speed early. |

Why not McGinn?
Bill - thanks for the good article. Although not your intent, it is helpful to put a perverbial blanket over the nonsensical trade talk on these threads.
If this was 2000 years ago, many on this board would debate whether we would trade a 2nd vs. a 3rd round pick for J.C.
99% of the users would also not include Coots in any deal, even if we got J.C. + a couple of close friends.
Thanks again for the player by player analysis - very interesting. - Daman
Thank god we didn't draft Judas back then. That's why you always take best available. |

Bill, you forget to mention Coburn, which played terribly - at least regarding his new contract..
His stupid penalty at the end almost cost the Flyers the win in regular time... Not to mention his unability to clear the zone.. |

Great game last night for these guys. This is the team we've been waiting for.
On a side note, my brother-in-law Gary Battaglini was somehow only 1 of 2 people convicted in that huge mob trial up there. The one guy that wasn't even part of the mob! |

He also dumped the puck into his own zone for some reason... i'm guessing instead of turning the puck over or something.. |

Nice write up Bill re: trades...reminds me of the Movie Moneyball..."give ya this for that..."no I like him", "you don't even know him"...just to get the deal done.
Rumors are all over the place re: Iggy coming to Philly...any validity to that "rumor"...
Rinaldo rung his bell...Crombeen didn't even know what team he was playing when he skated off to the locker room. Bad last hit?...dunno, But it was a GREAT tone setter for the game... |

Having 44-22, 5-8, 41-27 seems much more desirable than 44-41, 5-8, 27-3 with Lilja as the 7th guy. They'd be one injury to a top 4 guy away from having half their defense comprised of marginal 6th and/or 7th defensemen. |

Agreed. Gervais has played well. Much better than I thought he would. I don't think Foster has been terrible. He's had some good moments. He's much better than Lilja. |

I was scratching my head at that late penalty Coburn took. Why is he holding the guys stick with less than a minute left, clinging to a 1 goal lead? I didn't like the cross-checking penalty he took early either. Both were easily avoidable. |

From what i saw crombeen was still on his way down to the ice. It looked like he hit him while down at first, but after the replay it didn't look so bad to me. Besides, the way he was going at Giroux last game justifies in my mind a couple extra shots while on the ground. |

The first thing I saw, suggesting Iginla to Philly was Panaccio's series of tweets and blog here and column on CSNphilly.com, which suggested he'd trade for Iginla. Then it was repeated by Panotch's good friend Bruce Garrioch, and all of the sudden the Flyers are hot and heavy after Iginla.
Every subsequent rumor I have seen is based off Panaccio's idea that they should trade for Iginla or Garrioch's column that aped Panotch's, and neither of those columns suggested the Flyers were after Iggy, just that the writer felt he'd be a good fit. |

Yep. When Meszaros gets back, hopefully he can get back to his pre-Flyer days of (almost) being an Ironman. |

Yeah, not a fan of either call. In his defense, the cross check wasn't that awful, and the refs had ignored one that was as bad or worse on Briere a few minutes before.
But that last one...Jesus, that was bad and way too obvious. |

Gervais has been a surprise for sure although I wouldn't want him playing 20+ minutes a night on a regular basis. There's a reason why he never has. as for Foster, I'd say he's helped more than he's hurt so far, mainly because of his prowess on the PP. He's been passable defensively overall I would say. At least for his role. |

Should be no surprise. I really like Coburn's game, but he's absolutely due for 1 stupid penalty per game, normally in the 3rd period. It's just what he do. |

Yea...don't want an "Iggy" deal that would rip away any future young guys JUST to improve a shortened season. The old Clark two step...would HATE to see Read go someplace just to watch him develop into a top notch Flyer-killer...Weber....different story...man wouldn't have been nice to see Weber in a Flyers sweater.... |

If you mean the situation, when he entered the D-zone with a trailing opponent and instead of clearing in the opponent's goal direction (with forechecking player in our zone), he dumped it behind our goal and virtualy in the direction of this forechecking player and created a TB chance in a 5 seconds or so?
Yes, I noticed as well.. |

The cross check wasn't terrible and Marty St. Louis embellished but you got to at least be wary of how a play could be perceived by the refs as well as the fact that players will embellish. It wasn't the time or place for that kind of crosscheck. |

Coburn and Gervais need to be split up i think... whenever they're on the ice there are blown coverages everywhere...
Bryz's huge save on stamkos' one timer was a result of a coburn and gervais mishap... the tb goal was with coburn and gervais behind the net togeteher. although the center should have been all over the tb player in front.. instead he was thinking offense and left him all alone |
