The first thing I saw, suggesting Iginla to Philly was Panaccio's series of tweets and blog here and column on CSNphilly.com, which suggested he'd trade for Iginla. Then it was repeated by Panotch's good friend Bruce Garrioch, and all of the sudden the Flyers are hot and heavy after Iginla.
Every subsequent rumor I have seen is based off Panaccio's idea that they should trade for Iginla or Garrioch's column that aped Panotch's, and neither of those columns suggested the Flyers were after Iggy, just that the writer felt he'd be a good fit. - Jsaquella
I hate when writers do that, whether it's Panotch with Iginla or Carchidi with Ryan. They need to keep those sort of opinions to themselves instead of writing articles about them.
Yea...don't want an "Iggy" deal that would rip away any future young guys JUST to improve a shortened season. The old Clark two step...would HATE to see Read go someplace just to watch him develop into a top notch Flyer-killer...Weber....different story...man wouldn't have been nice to see Weber in a Flyers sweater.... - Flyers24
I love Iggy, but thy have other needs and the cost for him would be too much.
I like your analysis of a non-trade. Now that things are looking up a little should the Flyers start thinking about what is needed for a playoff run, I'm thinking 2 or 3 more players or should they just keep their powder dry for now and focus on next year?
Agreed. Gervais has played well. Much better than I thought he would. I don't think Foster has been terrible. He's had some good moments. He's much better than Lilja. - PLindbergh31
Lilja has played one game this Season. And it was his first game played in how long? We've seen much better players such as Coburn and Timonen struggle in the early going, and show rust. Why would it be any different for Lilja? Now he wasn't very good in that one game. But given some time, he can play much better then that. And other then his offensive ability, I'm not convinced that Foster is better. I don't want to see Lilja as a regular, but if he can shake the rust, he can be okay as a 7th, based on his past. Maybe he has regressed though, so it remains to be seen.
If you mean the situation, when he entered the D-zone with a trailing opponent and instead of clearing in the opponent's goal direction (with forechecking player in our zone), he dumped it behind our goal and virtualy in the direction of this forechecking player and created a TB chance in a 5 seconds or so?
Yes, I noticed as well.. - Ondrej F
I wonder if he doesn't trust gervais enough to pass the puck over to him instead of dumping it in..

Lilja doesn't have anything close to the skill set of Timonen or Coburn. He also doesn't possess the lethal shot that Foster has in his arsenal. I tend to think Lilja and Foster are pretty much the same defensively with a slight lean toward Lilja but the PP expertise of Foster make up for it. Just my opinion though.

I normally agree with your opinion, and I agree with your sentiment re: Lilja. But I'd just as happy never see you mention Lilja again. It's like watching Archduke Ferdinand getting assassinated each time.....

I don't usually mind the columns themselves, but the fallout afterward.
Panaccio writes a column where he clearly says that he would try for Iginla and not that the Flyers are gunning for him. Then that suddenly turns into the Flyers are going after Iginla or that they're close to an Iggy deal or whatever.
Carchidi did the same thing, stating what he would trade for Ryan and suddenly, Sam Carchidi is reporting that the Flyers are willing to trade such and such for Ryan.
I don't begrudge a columnist his opinion, I hate when other "journalists" turn another guy's opinion into news.

not too pop off topic, were you utterly discusted with the noncall on bzy goalie interference?

IMO, I think columnists need to be cognizant of their audience and any potential fallout. With the Philly fans and media, Carchidi and Panotch should know better than to stoke the fire. Unfortunately, I feel like they know this and the only reason they present these opinions is for page views and such. They should also know more about the game then they do.
Coburn and Gervais need to be split up i think... whenever they're on the ice there are blown coverages everywhere...
Bryz's huge save on stamkos' one timer was a result of a coburn and gervais mishap... the tb goal was with coburn and gervais behind the net togeteher. although the center should have been all over the tb player in front.. instead he was thinking offense and left him all alone - Flyersgod
When did Gervais & Coburn start playing center?
Looked to me like Gervais was in no man's land: too far from the slot and too far from the boards scrum.

They're selling the news nowadays. More fallout = more clicks on their site = more ad revenue. Wag the dog and make a profit.

In TP's defense, this is clearly nothing more than a blog of his own opinion.

Anyone who ran with it as a rumor, or uses it as a "source" for a rumor is a dum dum. - Scoob
Unfortunately, dum dums are the ones Panotch is appealing to or at least that's the feeling I get. If idiots start saying, "Panaccio is reporting that the Flyers are interested in Iginla," guess who everyone will go to for an update. More page views for Timmy.

Im amazed at how many people want him, I got into a debate with like 5 people at xfinity live about it and I was like why do we need him?! We dont need help scoring (they all looked at me like I was nuts)...

I wasn't stating that Lilja has anywhere close to the skill set of Timonen or Coburn. They were just simply used as an example of how the long off season and brief training camp affected some players. Lilja is in the same boat. My basic point is that Lilja can and has played better then he has in the one game he has played this Season. If Foster plays as he did last night, I would favor him due to his big shot. But he's not good enough offensively if he is going to be very poor defensively as he has been most of the Season.
