x even though we rarely agree you seem intelligent. Please answer tyhis question. Why would PA be useless if he signed a 4 yr deal on the Island? Do 4 year deals make people useless in hockey? - Cptmjl

I THINK he means that PAP wasnt a long term answer on the Isles... So 4 years would be over kill, but I always looked at it as a productive player that could be traded for something you need... Teams dont ONLY trade for rentals & a 60+ pt player signed for 2 or so years would be pretty valuable in my opinion.

need to be at floor by tomorrow - Charlie21
That's what I thought, but it begs the question...
Why didn't they sign Parenteau again? They could have someone help them get to the floor AND contribute. |

Arthur Staple @StapeNewsday
Reports out there are correct: #Isles have acquired G Tim Thomas for a conditional 2nd-rounder in either 2014 or 2015. - Charlie21
STUPID TRADE! WHY!?! A SECOND ROUNDER? I don't get it unless this is a precursor to something else (RDP Buy out?) |

Fine. Back to PAP.
PAP doesn't use pick-up lines, he just says "now". |

Now that would have been brilliant. I think this is there way of getting above the floor without actually paying. It's like reverse cap circumvention or something. |

would the Isles have been under the floor or is this to make sure an upcoming deal doesn't take them below it? Interesting.
I don't like the loss of the second round pick (unless it drops to a lower round if Thomas doesn't resign - LOL) but if it is to do one of two things - allow the Isles to buyout DP, or to allow the Isles to make a big trade, then we'll see what it looks like. I wasn't aware we could drop below the floor so I'm hoping it's a move to allow one of those two things to happen.

We all joked over the summer that the Isles would use Thomas to reach the cap floor.
No surprise here. Unless he actually reports to the Isles and plays!!!!! |

TT has to play at least 1 game as an Islander for the 2nd conditional pick to be honored - which will never happen. Nice way of fleecing the CBA/Cap, Garth. Gotta hand it to ya, you're not much of a hockey GM but you'll make a great CFO in your next career. WTG! |

Staple: snow said team not likely to toll. Pick doesn't go to Boston unless Thomas plays. Just a move for more flexibility with buyouts, roster moves etc. |

If they brought out DP right now his salary would still count against the cap just like Redden and Gomez. Makes no sense? |

once again wang has found a way around the new CBA. 5MM cap hit to get to salary floor, and he suspended so you dont have to pay him.
Why not just go get a 5MM a year impact player.
Now here is where having PA would of made sense. All jokes aside.
But i really do think reason why we didnt sign PAP is b/c he wanted 4 year deal. If PAP was winning to take a 2 year deal, he probably could have gotten 5MM a year from isles. |
