Even more so when you consider he was just benched for doing something similar and only slightly less dumb.
Why the (frank) would he think it was time to fight Ott, let alone the fact Ott never made a move to fight.
Edit: He certainly does, - habby
and of ALL (frank)ing people, Steve Ott?? maybe the least likely guy in the league to drop his glvoes in that scenario. the guy would throw his mother in front of a truck to draw a penalty.

really? because that doesnt sound too pleasant... - scotch_tape
Sorry, I was doing my Howard impression. Would it have been more obvious if I had said "I hate waking up early to shovel a foot of snow to get to work in the morning, but I found a nickle on the driveway, so all in all it was a win."?

Don't want to defend White because he HAS to figure it out at some point, your role changes according to the scoreboard. That being said, Ott does make a move to fight. He hits White then keeps skating toward White clearly inviting him. Much like we praised Prust for allowing others to take the extra penalty, Ott does the same here and White is the idiot for falling into the seemingly obvious trap set by Ott.
You know what, just watched it again. Not sure my above statement is right. White needs to give Ott time to make up his mind. At 4-1 or if Habs are losing, I have no problem with what he does, with a close game, he needs to make sure it's an invitation to drop'em.

There is never a score where taking a 4 minutes penalty is a good move...

Well this is why I revised and said that he needs to make sure of what's Ott intentions were and allow him to get his gloves off.
Edit: Also, I feel like we are being hypocrites a little. We crap on Laraque for 2 years for not fighting enough. Now we are crapping on White for doing it. Again, let me be the first to say that his timing is absolutely dumb dumb dumb. But...

Fighting involves 2 players dropping the gloves therefore ending up both having 5 minutes penalties...
White doesn't have one fight so far this year...just plenty of stupid penalties.
