Well this is why I revised and said that he needs to make sure of what's Ott intentions were and allow him to get his gloves off.
Edit: Also, I feel like we are being hypocrites a little. We crap on Laraque for 2 years for not fighting enough. Now we are crapping on White for doing it. Again, let me be the first to say that his timing is absolutely dumb dumb dumb. But... - kev1586
Why was it 4? A while ago, he (at least I think it was White) got 5 for fighting while other guy got nothing. I thought the play last night was either a similar call, or 2 for roughing. Not sure where the double-minor came from. |

Fighting involves 2 players dropping the gloves therefore ending up both having 5 minutes penalties...
White doesn't have one fight so far this year...just plenty of stupid penalties. - BashCH

Just one of those kind of things that makes the refs look good.
Not even sure they know the rule to apply in that case... |

However the (frank) they feel like it. Just like every other rule that they choose to enforce or overlook. |

Fair enough. I did say that he needs to settle down and allow the other player to drop the gloves as well, but whatever. not sure the one where he defends Gorges was that stupid, but the point remains the same. |

Budaj played like I expect a backup to play.
I would say Ott's goal was a brain fart, but Pennis got a breakaway because Emelin was hesitant at the blue line.
On the tying goal at the end of the game, there is no way the refs can see the puck under Budaj...I've seen refs whistle faster than that when the puck was clearly still in play. Not to mention the pile up in front of the goalie, especially when earlier this season, a simple fart in front of the goalie would be called as a penalty.
poop happens, moving on.
Budaj is an ok backup, especially to Carey Price. You won't find a much better option, one that will accept to spend the season on the bench. |

My favorite was Colby Armstrong getting 2 for unsportsmanlike last night when he got facewashed.

Don't want to defend White because he HAS to figure it out at some point, your role changes according to the scoreboard. That being said, Ott does make a move to fight. He hits White then keeps skating toward White clearly inviting him. Much like we praised Prust for allowing others to take the extra penalty, Ott does the same here and White is the idiot for falling into the seemingly obvious trap set by Ott.
You know what, just watched it again. Not sure my above statement is right. White needs to give Ott time to make up his mind. At 4-1 or if Habs are losing, I have no problem with what he does, with a close game, he needs to make sure it's an invitation to drop'em. - kev1586

Budaj - Not good enough to play in the NHL. Unfortunately, with Price playing 90% of the games, this is the type of back-up we'll probably get most of the time for the next 15 seasons.
White - Needs to get smart and get off whatever it is he is taking before the games.
That being said, with 3 seconds left, how hard would it really have been to start cross-checking anything and everything that comes within 5 feet of Budaj? |

Seriously, who cares if you get 4 penalties for cross-checking on that play?
Edit: This is when it would have been smart for White to jump on Ott and take a 4 minute penalty!!! |

Exactly. Chances are they don't get possession anyway, so it's a moot point. And if they do touch the puck and the play is dead, they've moved the puck from 3 ft from the crease to the faceoff circle, with under 3 seconds to go. Seems like a sound plan to me. |
