Maybe coaching as well. No way to quantify how often the Flyers practice shootouts compared to other teams. - PLindbergh31
Active leaders in shooting percentage (minimum of 30 attempts):
1. Frans Nielsen (60.5)
2. Michel Handzus (51.4)
3. T.J. Oshie (50.0)
4. Jonathan Toews (48.9)
5. Pavel Datsyuk (47.0)
6. Zach Parise (46.9)
7. Jaret Stoll (46.9)
8. Jussi Jokinen (45.5)
9. Brad Boyes (45.3)
10. Radim Vrbata (44.6)
16. Sidney Crosby (41.5)
23. Danny Briere (40.0)
28. Evgeni Malkin (39.0)
53. Mike Richards (31.9)
60. Alex Ovechkin (30.8)
Wide variety of guys so I just think the Flyers aren't built for shootouts. NJ, DAL, PIT, NYR and LAK are top all time in shootouts respectively. |

I'm curious if Homer was interested in acquiring Ellerby, I'm curious to see what Phoenix does with Rundblad? I gotta believe Homer is going to acquire a young d-man before the trade deadline. I don't see a Kubina type rental this year. |

Nothing more overrated than that. Leading by example is the best way to lead. There are plenty of veterans on this team that actually play in the games that are a presence in the locker room. Hard to command a lot of respect from your peers from a press box. - PLindbergh31

Fixed the spelling of his first name, but I still can't believe we got rid of Michal Handzus for Kyle Calder.

You would think guys like Giroux or Briere at the very least would be good in shootouts.
This is where a guy like Zherdev who was fairly worthless 5 on 5, would shine.
The shootout is a joke, but I would like to see the team give Brayden Schenn a try whenever they get a chance to next. His most memorable moments were probably in the WJC in the shootout. |

i can't believe lots of things, for example, frack being traded to frick's team and winning the stanley cup with gagne and williams and 42 ex flyer coaches, scouts, and managers.

NYR, NJ, PIT and LA. of course. how could it be anything different.
it would be interesting to examine the stats of every player who's scored against the flyers in the SO.

The fact Shelley hasn't spent one day in the AHL during the entire length of his contract is a joke. Compound the dumb signing by leaving the guy on the roster at the expense of more useful players. I'm amazed no one from the media asks why this is the case. - PLindbergh31
Look at how many players the Flyers have called up and had on their roster. Shelley hasn't, and isn't stopping the Flyers from doing anything they want to do. But I give you credit for holding out as long as you have to mention the Shelley situation.

Heres a question (really hoping MJL is around):
You have to buy out a player prior to FA, but how long prior... the day before at the latest?
Doesnt the new CBA say something about impending FA's and teams having the right to have contact with those players prior to FA.?
If thats the case, the Flyers could ultimately strike a deal with Perry in princlpe/agreement, and then buy out Briere (not a suggestion, just a possibility if I interpreted the new CBA correctly) prior to FA, and then make it the signing official on July 1 (or whenever FA starts this season). - jak521
Good question, and you're the first to mention it or think about it as far as I know.
The Ordinary Course buyout period is normally between June 15th and June 30th. Not sure if that is going to change due to the extended Season. The last day of the regular Season is April 27th. Then of course the playoffs.
Free Agency this Summer starts July 5th. I believe that the interview period for UFA players will be after the draft which is June 30th this year. Until July 4th. So normally the ordinary Course buyout period buts right up against the start of Free Agency. I would think they'll adjust it to be the same because of the Season lasting longer. So I think your premise is a distinct possibility.

I think Anaheim trades what it can't sign, unless they are really making a strong push for the SC

I've been sticking to an Anaheim forward since last summer, but admittedly that may have been impacted by the shortened season.
So I'll stick to my guns on this, just less confident that the summertime.
Us completely sucking (see injuries) or Anaheim being dominant (is that real?) would also impact this prediction.

I'll say nobody the cost will be too high & they'll need their picks to get players in the system to develop.

I would love to see Perry here just as much as anyone. However, I think Homer might go after Ryan instead. I really think we are a star sniper, an upgrade of Fedetanko, and one very very good or 2 solide dmen away from being a legit contender. Yet, I just keeping thinking back to last year's winner. Their goalie went insane and that is how they really won. Bryz looks strong this year. So far. So far. |

I feel like an enabler sometimes. We all really need to quit the whining. We have hockey back. We have the team we loved when we were young(er) back. And we have the best league (if not the best-operated) in the best sport back.
I look at how I loved the games in the 70's and 80's and somehow that changed in the 90's to today. We're more cynical, more critical, more analytical, etc. but at what cost?
EDIT: I also admit that I can be bi-polar on here at times. Perhaps because I self-analyze when AFK. |

I thought you said they would keep Laughton as well, and Da Man took the other side of that.
Why bet against the hot hand?
I'll bet anyone here that by the end of the next NHL draft, the Flyers will have a Anaheim forward on their roster. I'll bet 1 month of HB usage, meaning if you lose you can't post for one month. (mostly a gentleman's bet)
EDIT - you don't have to consider me a gentleman to make the bet. |

well, jezzzz, we could get one of their 4rth lin wingers. You might have to be a little more specific for me to take that bet. |
