What money do we have coming off the books that would allow us to go get a top goal scorer (that may not be available) and a top d-man (which is definitely not readily available).?

It's a lot less then that. Can't buyout Pronger as long as he remains injured. And the Flyers have about 7M using LTIR for Pronger, so then add the 6.5 buyout of Briere, and what do you get?

The thought isnt bad.. but its a lot easier said than done. Pronger cant be bought out because of his injury. Buying Danny B out is bad move for a few reasons. He is still one of the best producing players in the NHL come playoff time. He still puts up about 60 points a year during the season. He is exactly the type of locker room presence we need.

Getting a top end scorer and dman isnt like picking an apple. Go out, find the ones you like, and takem... doesnt work that way. You would have to certainly over pay in a trade for a d-man..

I noticed this too. All joking aside, he's not going to ever be more than a 13th forward who gets sparse playing time. But I had to keep checking the bench to make sure no one was missing. Seemed like Giroux was out every other shift almost, playing on that line.

To buyout Briere would be silly. His cap hit is in line with what other forwards at his skill and experience level are making. It was high when he first signed, to be sure, but that is no longer true. He just came back from a wrist injury and you expect him to produce at the level he does in the playoffs? Briere never looks impressive...until some defenders lose track of him around the net and Philly gets a goal....a move he executes often enough, especially in the postseason, that I would at least let his contract go to term rather than look at a buyout. Plus he is a veteran leader on a young team. No I keep Danny around.

Doesn't matter because that guy pornger sucks. Always my favorite post. This player or that player sucks! Yea, that's why he was a top draft pick and is in the NHL. Never mind that he's still basically a Rookie.

Agreed. Hartnell needs/deserves the ice time that G's line gets. Keep Briere on the top wing too, see if those 3 light it up. I could see that 3rd line cycling a lot in the offensive zone, big bodies hard to push off the puck.

I'm not saying that I advocate buying out Briere. But and it's a big but. If they get the right players to replace him adn use that Cap space. I'm all for it. Briere is going to decline at some point. So if they could, and I'll emphasize could, buyout Briere and sign Corey Perry. I'm all for it. The danger is the buyout has to happen before Free Agency. And we've seen what happens when you miss your targets.
