To buyout Briere would be silly. His cap hit is in line with what other forwards at his skill and experience level are making. It was high when he first signed, to be sure, but that is no longer true. He just came back from a wrist injury and you expect him to produce at the level he does in the playoffs? Briere never looks impressive...until some defenders lose track of him around the net and Philly gets a goal....a move he executes often enough, especially in the postseason, that I would at least let his contract go to term rather than look at a buyout. Plus he is a veteran leader on a young team. No I keep Danny around. - Lexington Flyer
Besides, if you buyout Briere and trade Schenn then you're committing to Couturier to produce offensively in a second line role. I would rather keep Briere for the year in the event that Couts isn't ready to be a true #2 center. |

Homer should have offered up a 5th, just to see if we could turn this kid into at least a solid 5-6. |

Loktionov, Lovejoy and now Ellerby for a 5th. Wonder what a 4th will get ya? |

Briere's best days are probably behind him, if a big time younger player be it a d-man or a forward could be brought in with the money cleared from buying Briere out it would be a good idea. What would likely happen would be Holmgren swinging and missing, then overpaying for mediocrity. |

I have been wanting to know how Lou Lamoriello was able to net a 5th round pick for PL3?
Lokitinov has some talent, I bet he ends up playing well for NJ. I can't wait for Lamoriello and Brodeur to get lost. |

I just worry that losing too many depth guys plus Briere and possibly trading Schenn would cause us to lose more offense. I'd love Perry but he'll have a crazy price tag (if he even his free agency) and if we started clearing contracts for him, I shudder to think what our 3rd and 4th lines will look like. |

It's a risk to do it. I think there is a chance it happens. |

I would not be shocked at all but I think I'd prefer to try to land a top pairing defenseman using B. Schenn and getting a cheaper option to play wing with G. Nathan Horton wouldn't be a bad option. Patric Hornqvist will be an RFA (who I would love) as will Mikkel Boedker who I think has a ton of potential. Niederreiter could be a cheap option or maybe Paajarvi like Bill suggested. |
