The two power plays were lame but they otherwise had several good looks at the net in the third period. I thought the Flyers pretty much controlled the game after Florida tied it at 2-2. What bothered me more was that they got a "late start" to the game -- sometimes you can get away with that and still win, but often you can't.

The skills competition is what it is. Win or lose, it's a joke. But there's no rule against taking the extra gift point from it when you're in that situation.

they started the 3rd the same way they did against the Lightning and it doesn't work. they can't give up the redline time after time with no resistance because eventually it will lead to a mistake. and it did again.

perry's combo of grit and hands would be perfect for the flyers, but he's their best plyr, so between him and getzlaf, he might be the guy to stay. then again, they don't have much at C, so...
- isaiah520

I think both stay to be honest. Cap room is not an issue and I can't imagine budget room is either with Selanne, Koivu and Lydman also coming off the books ($11.3 million). I think it'll be up to Perry as to whether he wants to stay in Anaheim or seek greener pastures.

true, the flyers D is so slow right now....the trap is the right idea

I was thinking more like Grossmann is to Coburn as Grossmann's jersey is to Flyskippy. Perfect complements.

i agree. it'd be the lure of another cup opp that attracts him to go elswhere. he'll get paid either way.

If it comes down to paying a 35 year old Briere 6.5mil, or a 27 year old Perry at least that, I'd choose Perry. HUGE risk buying out Danny before we can even offer Perry a contract though. Also, making these moves might complicate adding a top tier d-man, if B. Schenn is the main piece of the puzzle going the other way. Losing Briere and Schenn and we lose a lot of centre depth.

I agree as well though, I think Perry and Getzlaf are completely in the driver's seat. They can re-up for max contracts, stay playing hockey in Cali. Anaheim is playing really well so far too. Or, go pretty much wherever they want, like a Toronto or Philly. I think they both stay.

Even if he does, we don't know what went on behind the scenes. Like someone above said, perhaps Florida wanted him out of the Eastern Conference.

according to callers into Angelo "Ange" Cataldi, Bryz is the problem and Leighton should have been put in for the shootout.

Ange agreed

We'd have won by 3 or 17 goals last night if Holmerg decided to get BOB RYAB FIST. ALL OTHERS SCOND.

Heres a question (really hoping MJL is around):

You have to buy out a player prior to FA, but how long prior... the day before at the latest?

Doesnt the new CBA say something about impending FA's and teams having the right to have contact with those players prior to FA.?

If thats the case, the Flyers could ultimately strike a deal with Perry in princlpe/agreement, and then buy out Briere (not a suggestion, just a possibility if I interpreted the new CBA correctly) prior to FA, and then make it the signing official on July 1 (or whenever FA starts this season).

All buyouts have to occur during the normal buyout period period, usually the week between the SCF and opening of FA

Seems like a loophole the NHL would not be too happy with if true.
