Neither one mentions Vincent Lecavalier continuing to hit Max Talbot while he was laying on his side on the ice. |

I'm selfish he stays.
How about Taylor Leier of the Portland Winterhawks he scored twice last night giving him 22 goals in 48 games. |

If we dig deeper into the +/-, we can see the disparity is partly due to special teams play.
Salo has been on the ice for 18 of Tampa's goals. Carle for 17 and Hedman for 16. However, 7 of the goals that Carle's been on the ice for have been PPG, which means he doesn't get a + for those goals.
Hedman and Salo have been out for 3 PPGs for. Which means instead of losing 7 + points, they only lose 3 each. So the highest possible rating for each now is +15 for Salo, +13 for Hedman and +10 for Carle. Now, for TB goals against, Carles' been out for 12 GA. Hedman & Salo for 8 each. However, 3 of the goals against for Carle and Salo were PPG by the other team. 5 of the goals scored by Tampa opponents when Hedman is on the ice have been PPGs.
So Carle's +/- is hurt because of the team's PP success when he's on ice. And Hedman is helped because more than half the goals against scored with him on the ice don;t affect his +/- at all. - Jsaquella
+/- is only a measure of even strength with a slight advantage to PP killers since they get a + for a goal and no - for a goal against. |

Exactly what I was pointing out. Carle loses 7+ because he's been on for 7 PPGs. Hedman is helped because 5 of the goals against have been scored when he's on the PK |

Nope he needed the move to a place with less presser to be successful like Toronto |

Want to know the truth? He's had regular linemates and doesn't get dropped to the 4th line as soon as he has a bad shift. |

once he showed what he did vs BOS, it would always be risky trading him without giving him a solid line slot and showing patience. hopefully, we'll be saying similar things about luke. |

That's true. The Flyers are lacking a puck moving defenseman. Will Gustafsson save the day? Probably not. He will skate the puck up the ice which is his biggest asset. - stveshdy
I think this fixation on the supposed need for a "puck moving defsenseman" is kind of misguided. I mean, look at today's game for example. Grossman and Schenn, two guys perceived to be the more defense oriented, stay at home types, repeatedly made solid puck moving plays, both passing and skating, out of the defensive zone...they also joined the play offensively a few times, while also playing solid, physical defense...Timonen moved the puck well. So, what was it Carle was doing that's so lacking now (besides turnovers and taking the puck instead of the man)? We already know Timonen can move the puck with aplomb, Coburn has the wheels and to do it...Mez is more than capable of moving the puck...I mean really, is a high priced puck moving specialist the biggest priority? I'd rather have a guy like Foster at <$1 mil) around to add depth and fill in some gaps (RH, pp, bomb from the pt). The guy put up 42pts in 71 games three seasons ago. Fk Matt Carle and his $5.5 mil. |

I'd like more mobility. Foster scares me, especially when he's paired with Grossmann. |

the ability to consistently make outlet passes tape-to-tape is an essential quality in a dman that is lacking somewhat with our current crew. it makes forwards lives a lot easier and is among the best ways to counter an aggressive forecheck. |
