I must have watched that clip 100x's last year. he had to get harrased in the locker room after the game. - Stinkfitz
He apparently went to the Joe Besser School of Pugilism.

Great, there's a gag that three, maybe four people on the board will get without googling Joe Besser. |

How does it matter? Orr's job is to fight. It's likely he won't be the one taking the run at a Flyers star, but will have to fight Shelley because another Leaf did.
How does that settle anything? - Jsaquella
A quick Youtube search shows that Orr has no problems with taking runs at skill players. I understand his main job is to fight other enforcers, but hitting anything that moves is also part of his job description. |

Orr can take a clean shot at Giroux, hurt him, and not get tagged with a penalty. In scenarios like that, it still deserves a response from the Flyers. - steelydan
I thought we were all of the mind that a hard, clean check does not call for an immediate fight. Looks, hitting is part of the game. If a star player is in a position to get hit, and a more physical player does it within the rules of the game, why should he have to fight?
Case in point: Brayden Schenn laying that huge hit in Game 3 and getting cross-checked in the throat by Asham. It was a huge, devestating, clean (the call was BS) hit, well within the rules, so why did he have to face retaliation? |

The Stooges rule! I wasn't a fan of Joe DeRita though, I must admit. |

exceptional defensive awareness and hockey sense. How do you measure this and how does it differ from the three people I mentionned . Stats are all very similar. Others didn't have Weber as a linemate. - strongsupporter
Who has been the better player since they've parted ways? Suter or Weber?
If you want to argue small sample size, take a look Weber's stats in games when Suter wasn't available. A stark contrast to games with Suter.
Suter allowed Weber to become an offensive force. He wasn't simply the guy giving him the puck. |

It certainly is. Again, how does Shelley stop that? He won't. At best he can fight Orr and take him out of the game for 5 minutes. Far more effective if he knows that if he breathes on Giroux, the crazy little bastard Zac Rinaldo will take a run at Phil Kessel and knock his brain into next month, and then ignore Orr's attempts to fight him.
If Orr has a clean run at Giroux, he's going to take it, Sheelley or not. |

Besser was probably in a dozen shorts or so. I thought he was pretty funny. Certainly not as good as Curly or Shemp. |

how about just signing carle at that point w/o leaving us short a puck mover and scorer? we could have always traded a plyr if weber or suter had signed here. why go searching for a puck mover and then trade for a guy w/ a similar skill set to grossmanN? that said, Luke's bad moments have been few so far. - isaiah520
Look at everything that happened. The Flyers were looking to add a physical defensive defenseman for the future. And they were looking to add a top defenseman in either Suter or Weber, to replace Carle. There is a big picture to consider. |

he didn't have to wait to sign carle and homer had lots of exp trading assets to clear cap space. - isaiah520
A GM doesn't have to do anything. But he obviously had a plan. It didn't all quite work out. But again, it's easy to sit back and evaluate after the fact. |

The one that I keep seeing is 'Horsing Around', where their sister Birdie is reincarnated as a horse. Not bad, but the boys were getting a little long in the tooth at that point.

I'd be willing to say that less than 50% of fans are of that mindset, and I'm sure the percentage of players are much less. The "level-headed" analysts will say that, but it's easy to be level-headed when there is no vested interest.
The fact of the matter is, if Giroux is crushed into the boards via a legal hit and gets knocked out of the game, there is little-to-no-doubt in my mind that someone will retaliate. Legal or not, no team wants to be perceived as a pushover, and that is what will happen if hits go unpunished. Hockey is simply not as cut-and-dry as people want to make it out to be. These are human beings with emotion on the ice and they ultimately have a group-mentality of sticking up for each other, clean or not.
But in my defense, I'm not saying it automatically deserves a fight. It certainly does deserve some sort of response. |

Yep. Once Larry and Moe went to the "Gentleman's haircuts" (hair slicked back) the Stooges had jumped the shark. |

My family watched A&C, not the Stooges (as much).
Loved Shemp in the third Thin Man movie, though.
