Tonight was simply piss poor effort, coupled with terrible decision making and execution.
The troubling thing is, the blame lies not on the younger guys, but on the key vets, like Grossmann, Coburn, Giroux, Briere, et al. |

It's a long ways off, but I wouldn't pass on him just to draft a d-man even with it being a serious system need. |

Which is unfortunate. I think he has tried to make system changes to tone down the offensive attack.
I just dont know what many could do with this group? Maybe you get Schenn, Giroux, Briere and Voracek to wake the hell up. It shouldnt take firing a coach of Lava's caliber to do that. - flyer_nutter
Not saying I agree with firing Lavy, or that it would help the team. But a few more games like this and the pressure will be too much for Snider, and that'll be that.
Also, I wonder whether having Paddock "helping out" is really helping. There has been no obvious beneficial impact to his addition to the staff, and I wonder if the message from the coaching staff is consistent? Now way for me to know (obvs), but maybe Bill has a clue? |

What is your fix?
Obviously I think they just have to ride it out, not much that can be done. I am not impressed with the veterans on this team.
Briere, Coburn, Kimmo, Voracek and Giroux have been sub-par. - flyer_nutter
I can live with the growing pains of the young players. And I can live with the fact that this team still needs some pieces. I can't live with the poor efforts like tonight. I don't think this has anything to do with Coaching. There is just something that is not there right now. Veteran players are pressing. I think it's what you said. Ride it out and see what happens. Don't make a move just to make one. Keep the big picture in mind.

Majority of the conversation today was JVR/Schenn and Colton Orr.
If someone said before the game that JVR would toast Schenn for a goal, and Orr would score the game winner, I don't think anyone would have believed it. |

Yes an AHL team that going in was ahead of them in the standings.

If they fire Laviolette who is replacing him? Murray or Paddock would be a waste of everyone's time. |

Thankfully, we were spared the indignity of Orr's 5th career GWG. |

I disagree about Murray. At the very least guys would play better defense, or they wouldn't be seeing the ice. |

Putting a team together that doesn't look very good. I know it's early and they can still make a run. I just don't understand how firing the coach is best solution. - FlyerLifer
But firing the GM who went hard after Parise, and Suter, and went balls to the wall after Weber is the solution?
It's the players.
Last season was a fluke, I think. And I use fluke loosely. Believe it or not, but I think this team went into rebuild mode when they traded Richie and Carter. They turned a new stone, for better or for worse. I don't think this team "was supposed" to do as well as they did last year. Let's face it- they surprised everybody.
Now, maybe these guys are playing back down to Earth a little bit. Besides, the average age of this team is....25? We all know this is a young team. Add to the fact that we lost a good chunk of offense in the offseason and...well....this is where we are. Towards the last phase of a rebuild. We were just blessed that the guys Homer brought in a few season ago took their chance and ran, in essence skipping the "sucking for a long time" stage.
They're a few pieces away from contention. A #1 dman and a winger away. Right now, I don't think this hockey team is this bad. I don't think they're a playoff team, but I don't think they're this bad. It happens though- humans play this game. Humans can overperform, and they can underperform.
Who knows- maybe these guys will turn it around.
I do know this though: the young core of this team (Schenns, Cooter, G, Read), along with Bryz between the pipes is something I don't want to see blown up. |

This team got out worked. I don't really know who to blame for lack of effort: coaches, veteran leadership, youth. |
