Is Colton Orr actually playing well enough to warrant a regular shift?

I mean....don't we, as Flyers fans, want the Leafs to trot that meatball out there for a regular shift?

The flyers are just too slow. Couldn't handle the leafs speed tonight and it made them look real bad. Are we done with the knuble experiment? How is wellwood not an effective player on this team anymore? Their getting best to pucks everywhere.
- Just5

I don't think Knuble has played poorly. Giroux has to start doing something. His regression thus far has been the most depressing aspect to the season. I believe he's hiding an injury. He looks like a shell of what he was.

Knuble is not an NHL player anymore. Nice guy. Hes taken penalties the last 3 games I think. I don't think giroux is injured, but hes not fighting for anything out there. Take away his line mates from last year and it's not a surprise he struggles. But this is awful. The PP is disgusting. There is no creativity it's a paddycake gane bw roo and kimo

The constant parade to the penalty box is sure getting old. Year after year, nothing changes.

This is a big thing for me.

Whats crazy is the team isnt even that physical or tough.

Grossman, Simmonds, Hartnell and Schenn are the only guys that come close to bringing the physical element consistently. No excuses for the amount of penalties.

I think he serves a role but he is getting beat a lot and having to take penalties to keep up.

I dont keep him after this season, but as of now he is one of the few I see trying in the offensive zone and getting down and dirty. Which is more than can be said for a lot of the others.

Majority of the penalties are undisciplined stick fouls, or guys not moving their feet and being forced to grab and hold.

Sounds like a lack of speed or no effort.

The D is slow. Or average at best.

In terms of forwards however most of the guys can skate. Voracek, Briere, Giroux, Read, McGinn, Rinaldo, Simmonds, Talbot (and Hartnell) all have legs.

Brayden Schenn is not speedster but his mobility isn't terrible.

Coots, Knuble and Feds are the slower guys but the guys mentioned previously aren't putting in enough effort.

Tonight aside, I've seen Grossman skate harder in the offensive zone than most of the forwards.

Both, unfortunately.

Deadly combination.

I really think lava is in trouble here. Before the season you got the sense that the GM and the owner were aligning when they were talking about keeping goals against down. Then paddock gets sent to the ice. Lava never really seemed to acknowledge any of this. Im thinking it's entirely possible players are receiving mixed messages

Call up Gustafsson and Wellwood. Bring up some players with speed.

Who knows. I think Paddock is a piss poor coach.

They brought Lava in originally and wanted them to "hunt the puck". Now they want something different because the D is stocked of slower defensive d-men. The organization needs to pick an identity and go with it. Thats frustrating to me.

If Lava gets fired so be it. I will move on but when players are not trying, being lazy and stupid that is on them. When a GM assembles a team that has huge question marks to begin with that is on him.

To me, and it sucks to say, they simply are not good enough. On paper or the ice. Too many secondary guys and players trying to grow into primary roles. Not enough creativity and snarl up front. Missing Hartnell hurts, but one guy isn't going to fix what the others are not willing to do.

What's up with Gus? Has he sucked? Do the flyers need to pass someone on waivers or something? It's not like we need fosters size. Gus would be better on the pp too

Guss I have no idea.

Wellwood wasnt playing up to Murray's standards in the AHL and that could have something to do with it. I would be all for bringing him in however. Even a guy like Harry Z who fell out of favour so fast.

I think we all found out how fast Toronto is now. Man they gotta he loving their new GM who has a set and turned that lineup over to a younger hungrier group of players

No they aren't good enough. Many of us suspected it but it hurts to see. If we're going to be losing I want young phantoms up here playing soon.

the flyers and pens have both got to be the two most maddening teams in the nhl. i understand they both could use the same pieces (another scoring winger and a solid d man) but then again what team couldnt use more of that. the bottom line is the talent on both teams is obscenely underperforming, and its a damn shame. all world players making dumb mistakes and consistently forgoing the simple effort play.

I think a huge part of this comes down to the short season.

Guys just not being physically or mentally ready to go.
