that was a wild season series... seems pretty scripted that we'll get blown out by them tonight, jvr hat trick.
- Don'tForgetTocchet

Eh.

JvR can have a hat trick as long as the Flyers win 4 - 3.

Is there any chance that Schenn and (suck it) Phaneuf go at it tonight? I have heard many a leafs fan say that the disdain they have for each other is of the purest form...

Also, Rinaldo has been pretty dominant in his fights to date... I pray he goes no where near that monster Orr. That guy has a few screws loose. Every time he fights I feel like I am watching a Civil War documentary... Guy lines up, waits to get hit and then..... sdfhjkhngabhdfaghneyityayvfynhaiu

If there is it was after phaneuf fought his little brother I remember after they panned by schenn and he didn't look overly happy

first off, in case you weren't aware, avery is no longer on the rangers and hasn't been for a while so that statement is irrelevant.

second, what about matt cooke? avery might've said some things to guys but he never pulled a matt cooke (or a rinaldo) and injured them/jeopardized their career.

as for rinaldo's role... i get it. he's supposed to be a bottom 6 energy player that throws the body and fights when he has to. but that doesn't mean he's not a scumbag also. he throws cheapshots and blindside hits a lot. whenever a hockey fan thinks of rinaldo they automatically associate words like scumbag, cheapshotter, matt cooke to him. if you youtube rinaldo cheapshots like 3 vids come up right away....and isn't this only rinaldo's 2nd season?

- rangerdanger94

Matt Cooke cleaned up his game substantially so kudos to him.

As for Rinaldo, he's more or less "type cast" as a bad guy. He makes some questionable hits but I wouldn't classify him as dirty. Sometimes he loses control of his emotions but he's gotten better at keeping them in check.

There is one hit that he has... that I will straight out say was cheap.. and it was the butt to hip/leg of Zubrus in the playoffs.

Outside of that its bs stuff. His hit on Galiardi was sooo dirty it made it in the NHLs hits of the week. His shot on Michalek was a frustration thing. 9-2 in the second period and Michalek hits him high... Michalek then assumes the position ready to get hit into the boards, draws the penalty and then starts yapping. I would have done the same thing. Nothing is more frustrating than when a guy gets body position on the boards with the intent to draw a penalty.

Rinaldo came out of juniors with a reputation and is most effective when he plays on that edge of being irritating without being dirty.

Having Rinaldo is like having Carcillo, but with a functioning cerebral cortex.

If "cheapshots" redirected to "Zac Rinaldo", or vice versa, on Wikipedia, then there would be an argument to be had.

Just dress Shelley and be done with it.

We're supposed to be the Broad Street Bullies. Listen to some of the stuff on this board. Orr is scary??!??!??

you're acting like rinaldos an angel. he's already been suspended for charging in his rookie season!!! he's got vids on youtube titled "Zac Rinaldo Cheapshot" and "Zac Rinaldo Blindside Hit". not to mention all the little poop he does that doesn't get uploaded or remembered.

do you really wonder where this reputation comes from?

i'm not saying i wouldn't want this dude on the 4th line of the rangers (although seriously i don't) or that he isn't an effective player but his reputation is earned. that's all i'm saying.

- rangerdanger94

Im not acting like he is an angel at all. I am acting like he doesnt- and never has- gotten a fair shake at the NHL level. Prime example. He throws a good clean hit on Semin in saturdays game. Actually, Semin went to hit him but Rinaldo put him on his ass.. about 10 seconds later he is skating by the bench and Harrison runs him... clear as day interference. Harrison continues to give him the stinky glove. Rinaldo keeps his head.

Should have been at least a 2 minute interference penalty. Could have been a double minor including a roughing... but nope.. Rinaldo gets a 2 minutes unsportsmanlike for embellishment. Pathetic.

How about when Jay Harrison hit Rinaldo on Saturday and they both got penalties? it goes to show you that the dude has been labelled to the nth degree. No matter how clean he plays, he'll always be thought of as a "dirty" player. Same goes for Cooke. It's like actors that play a character in a wildly successful movie and it overshadows their acting ability and hurts them for future roles.

I like both players but I think their better utilized being split up. They are the same size. L schenn is not a fighter and it won't be pretty
- Just5

Players the same size can't play on the same line?

Since the 08/09 Season, which was Luke Schenn's first year in the League. Schenn has been in 20 fights. In that same time period, Phaneuf has been in 15 fights.

Fedetenko and Talbot are well suited to play together on a checking line. Luke Schenn is a pretty big guy. I think he can handle himself against Phaneuf.
- MJL

Neither Phaneuff or Schenn while big men are good fighters... Any decent fighter would handle either pretty easily

Aside from one guy(pollard) the niners had a more intimidating defense if you go position by position. But I agree we are the bullies and Orr will feel brieres wrath tonight

there is a correlation between a player's reputation and what pops up when you search his name.

if you look up datsyuk on youtube, all you see are videos of skills, goals, and passes. what's the first thing you think of

if you look up matt cooke on youtube, all you see are videos of elbows, blindside hits, and other cheapshots.

i know it sounds stupid but it's true. reputation=what everyone thinks about you and when all the videos of you are you cheapshotting people, then yea...people are gonna think you're a scumbag.

you honestly think that if you ask a fan of literally any other team if they think rinaldo is a scumbag they'd say no?

In case you're not aware, the entire NHL thinks of the Flyers as the Broad Street Bullies, and that hasn't been the case for 2, close to 3 decades.
Also, when people think of the biggest scumbag in recent history, Avery and Cooke are the first 2 that come to mind.

i understand and like i said i'm not saying rinaldo actually is a dirtbag player all the time but i'm just trying to explain his reputation around the league from non-flyer fans.

The size comment was relative to schenn and phaneuf. I thought phaneuf was a better fighter than that. You win. I'm going to take my puck and go home now
