Not a good game last night from what I saw. If we get blown away in Winterpeg, this could end up as a 1-5 road trip and put us right back behind the 8 ball for making the playoffs. Hopefully, Boosh has some magic for tonight. |

Don't be surprised if Bryz is in again, since he was pulled early last night.
They just better help him out at least a little tonight. |

The defensive coverage, team wide, was atrocious last night. Not going to beat anyone playing that way.
They got 46 shots, but created no traffic for them and didn't fight for many second chances. |

That's the thing... not only was the team defense horrible, but they weren't getting many quality chances with the exception of a couple. They aren't crashing, they aren't getting someone in front of the net, they aren't chasing after the dump in,... They need to start executing and sustaining offensive pressure, instead of a one timer and then we're going the other way... |

Bill any word on gustaffsons progress in the A? They need his speed on the back end for the 3rd pairing |

Gustafsson played well in his last game but it's been a slow recovery from the foot injury. |

Good point re crashing the net. My question is who is going to do it? The top forwards on this team are for the most part too damn small! Giroux 172lbs, Briere 179lbs(yeah and if you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you!), Simmonds 182lbs, Read 180 lbs, Schenn 190lbs, Couturier 197lbs...
THe only forwards with decent size are Voracek who rarely plays physical and Knuble who has lost a step and was never fast in the first place. THis team badly misses Scott Hartnell, but even with Hartnell, they could really use another true power forward. |

They had 46 shots last night. I'd bet 40 of them were first shots, and that 35 or more were first shots taken with no traffic in front or anyone driving to the net.
You're not beating a NHL team like that. |

JVR looked great last night. If he could put that effort out night in and night out he could will be a special player. Unfortunately i think he will go back to his old pattern of taking nights off once the new team excitement wears off but i hope for him it doesnt. |

I can still see Matt Read shooting the puck right into the goalie with half the net open on the penalty kill. |

That's part of the reason I liked McGinn on that first line. I know Simmonds gets in there and digs for the garbage, but McGinn has more body, and uses every ounce of it. The few times he's been set up in front of the net, or crashing in, he's looked like a pro. I really didn't agree with moving him off that first line.
Not saying he's the solution... they're still a relatively small team as far as forwards. Giroux and Voracek get by on their skill and puckhandling, but Briere gets tossed around like a little kid. I just hope when Hartnell gets back, he plays smart and doesn't start taking those stupid penalties again. They need him, and they need him out of the box. |

They have some smaller players, especially with Hartnell out, but they didn't even try to crash the net last night.
Also, Simmonds and Schenn scored most of their goals last year from within 5 feet of the net. They had little issue crashing the net then. Size isn't as important as sheer desire |

He put the first one wide, then right into Reimer's leg...UGH...there were far too many passengers last night. I didn't like the compete level from 90% of them. Brayden Schenn was one guy that seemed to be playing hard last night...not sure I can think of any others |

Read also played very well early, inability to finish off the SH chance aside.
The first period last night was not a bad one for the Flyers. Too many penalties, but otherwise a solid road period. The rest was a debacle.

They seemed to be chasing the play the majority of the night. Poor effort and if spending 18 pages of posts about Colton Orr isnt pathetic enough he goes and scores a goal. |
