should've traded for weber's rights at the draft - Flyers4Life88
They tried too but apparently our offer was lackluster. I honestly don't think Nashville could've justified moving him to their fanbase with out receiving a TON in return including a big name prospect/young player. |

When did the Flyers get replaced by a Special Olympics team? (And I'm sorry to insult Special Olympics hockey...) That was one of the most painful games to watch in a very long time. Inept comes to mind.
Giroux and Briere = inexcusable performance.
And was it Grossman that skated the puck backwards all the way into our zone then gave it away leading to the 4th goal? That was a real gem of a play... |

I may be off chronologically here, it has been some time, but didnt they offer contracts to both Suter and Parise, prior to the OS?
If that is the case, they lost out big on two guys they thought they were gonna be able to buy, and moved onto plan B.. Weber. - jak521
I think the Flyers were covering all their basis. I think they were involved in all at the same time. |

July 4, 2012 - Suter & Parise sign with Wild
July 4, 2012 - Carle signs with TB
July 19, 2012 - Flyers sign Weber to OS
My mistake, Weber was plan C. - NickTheKid87
I believe Carle was still Plan A. |

So you think that the Flyers believed they were going to be able to get Weber one way or another, yet still went after Parise and Suter as well? |

I think they knew at some point Carle wasn't coming back and made their other offers to guys like Suter and Weber, to try to replace him. |

but we were willing to give up 4 consecutive 1st round picks as offer sheet compensation? i dont get it, i think the trade wouldve costed less than 4 1st round picks |

That's irrelevant (besides they'd be picks in the late 20s). What I'm saying is that Nashville would have needed a big time prospect in return for marketing and PR purposes. I don't feel that Couturier even fits that bill. I firmly believe he'll be a great player but not the kind that entices fans to watch. If they could've gotten something like the 1st overall pick from EDM or Hall, RNH or Eberle, then maybe we see Weber traded. Just my opinion. |

Doesn't matter who wanted more. It matters what the market is. Just throwing names like wanting Kadri is playing fantasy Hockey. That's overvaluing JVR. And not thinking the Flyers got enough, is undervaluing Luke Schenn in my opinion. - MJL
that's about it and its no better than mine...just different sometimes. |

That was all luck dude. Most late 20s picks don't get that good. |

It's unpredictable. Weber himself was a 2nd round 49th overall pick. But most teams are not going to take gamble like that. |

The Philadelphia Flyers' first-round pick went to the Washington Capitals as the result of a trade on June 20, 2008, that sent Steve Eminger and the 84th-overall pick to Philadelphia in exchange for this pick. WSH drafted john carlson..... |

on July 1, they still could have signed carle, but they obvi went in a diff direction. - isaiah520
If they had signed Carle, the pursuit of Suter & Parise ends. |

They did use a 1st rounder that year on defenseman Luca Sbisa. |
