Ryan Whitney is going to be a healthy scratch for Edmonton tonight. You'd have to think he could help the Flyers on the back end, he wouldn't cost all that much either. |

how has colorado not done anythin with o'riley yet? kinda crazy to see a hold out, thought that was only reserved for the NFL...a player i like on that team is johnson only 24 3.75 cap hit....think about it - Flyers4Life88
No way they move Johnson. Too much potential there plus he's already good. I'd love him but I'd be shock if he was available. |

If Harry Z gets into a game, he will be the first Flyers to wear number 12 since Simon Gagne - Jsaquella
That makes me a little sad.

Yup but the O'Reilly situation is interesting. Someone higher did say O'Reilly had played his last game in Colorado. Not sure who but I remember the report being from a legit source. He wouldn't fit with the Flyers but still. |

Yeah but if I am not mistaken he is a UFA at the end of this season and he would help the mobility of the defense he could also help the PP quite a bit |

I don't, unless you're saying that today's Crosby (strength and conditioning, equipment, etc.)could play back then. I wonder how he'd do getting constantly hacked, slashed, hooked, and cross-checked. - jmatchett
He would feast of of it. Thats the type of player Crosby is. His freak concussion aside.. he was probably the most focused on player in the league. Guys whacked and slashed and crosschecked, knocked his teeth out. What he do? Oh just dominated the league in every category. |

Initial reactions are different from looking and thinking further into it. And my initial reaction was tempered with the disappointment of losing JVR, who I was looking forward to watching blossom alongside Claude Giroux. And that's what should be done. Further thought and information gathering to move from an initial reaction that has emotion involved. To a more thought out opinion once more information is gathered. It's a sign of objectivity. Instead of ignoring that information and stubbornly clinging to an initial reaction. Luke Schenn is already a #4 defenseman in this League. Right now! You believe that Luke Schenn is maxed out in his development now? At 23 years of age, there is no further room for improvement to become a better player then he is right now. Which would totally ignore the obvious areas that are evident in his play now. That can be improved with work by the player. With Coaching, mentoring, and the player gaining experience and maturity.
And from watching Schenn play here, I have a much better idea of what I think he can reach as a player. - MJL
k...so now taking a position and sticking with it is stubbornly clinging to an initial reaction. but, this trade was rumored for months...
maybe your views outside the bean counting of CBAs are subject to the same interpretations and prejudices that others have. so spare me the lectures because you've contradicted yourself too many times to be so sanctimonious...

I haven't contradicted myself at all. What has happened is that I have more information available to form a more accurate and informed opinion. Namely, I've seen the player actually playing in a Flyers uniform. Other then the small sample of games I saw him play as a Leaf. The post that you rehashed that was made almost 9 months ago, was clearly clarified as an initial reaction. And in being objective, taking in more relevant and recent information on the player. My opinion on him has evolved to what it is today. And I'll continue to be objective when looking at Luke Schenn or any other player that I watch play. |

Yes, they did that and they got penalties for that, it was let go in Gretzky's era.
Also, Gretzky had 63 SHG in a span of 10 years, and he wasn't even a regular penalty killer. Crosby gets PK time and has 3 for his career. All of that with a wooden stick and those gloves that didn't allow him free wrist movement (because of the hacks his wrists took every game would have broken his wrists) to stick handle.
Is Crosby a generational talent? Yes. Is he the best player in the game today? Yes. Would he have been able to do what Gretzky did in the 80s? If not, he'd probably be 2nd or 3rd with Lemieux. But you make it seem like he'd be putting up 300 points a year using the technology, training, and lack of penalties called back then, and that wouldn't happen. |

Alright, now that we have established that it's harder to score goals in todays NHL, I have to know why James van Riemsdyk can never be the second coming of John LeClair? I will admit that I could be over hyping this kid, but we are far from seeing what we gave up on. If anything, this is the season I would think we could have seen what he could do when leaned on as a front line player. Toronto is doing that now. We never did that for an extended period of time.
I like Luke Schenn, just not at the cost of only James van Riemsdyk.
So who on this team can play at a the same level as Giroux, while being the perfect compliment to our new Captain? |

Gustafsson, Harry Z, and Wellwood.
Would like to see these kids get some playing time with the big club.
We may see a couple of these guys at some point. This team needs to get alittle more speed out there. |

Brian Boucher is expected to get the start in goal Tuesday night.
The Flyers are giving Ilya Brygalov a night off after their top goalie surrendered four goals in 26 minutes before being pulled in favor of Boucher on Monday night.
