if he were to hang something up after every bad game, he would run out of room fast....I would rather have them be horrible this season, rather than mediocre. At least get a top draft pick.
- Philly1980

I think the team's too good to be awful. There are still other teams a lot worse too. I could easily see them missing the playoffs but not by all that much. Maybe this is the year we get lucky and win the Draft lottery after finishing a few points out of the 8th spot in the East.

It's not about doing it after every bad game, just before you play a particular opponent who mopped the floor with you. This team is better than how they played last night and the coach has to believe that too. In believing such he needs to challenge them from time to time.

I have to say, while I don't think the JVR goal was a huge deal (just a pile on goal in a blow out game), I hope it gets under the Flyers' skin. I hope they circle February 25 and prepare to return the favor for last night.
- BulliesPhan87

Eh.

I remember the hat trick Lindros dropped on the Flyers in his first game against the Flyers as a Ranger and being far more agitated.

That JVR goal happened when the outcome wasn't really in doubt.

Be careful what you wish for...

And I think the entire league has figured V out. Stand in a passing lane and you neutralize him. I didn't have a high expectation for him and I've been disappointed.

Making a panic move for offense would be a big mistake. The team is still very talented up front, despite the injuries.

Shooting at only 6.3% at even-strength is very unlucky and not going to win you many games. Let regression toward the mean take its course and watch this team start scoring more goals and winning more games.

I agree. What I'm getting at is that I hope they return the favor for a blowout wholesale. Last night on the whole was just plain terrible, I don't think I hate losing to any team more than the Maple Leafs. Maybe the Rangers, I'm not sure.

dynamic- game changing...having a wider range of ablility to make individual plays that make a diff
higher ceiling- greater asset value potential
incorrect- not applicable because 1) at this point the results of the trade can not be evaluated because there is not enuf perspective and 2) it's just a diff of opinion at this point, not a misinterpretation of the CBA or some other black and white fact.

- isaiah520

By it's very nature, a goal scoring Winger is a more dynamic player then a stay at home physical top defenseman. So that point is really moot. Because a lot of things that the defenseman in the deal does, aren't noticeable as much. Although they contribute just as much if not more to creating a winning team. I would lean towards more.
I think the biggest problem is that your opinion on Luke Schenn's ceiling falls short of what it is, in my opinion.
I do however agree that time will tell on how the trade works out.

I dont know...If they have a horrible road trip worse than 3/3 then i say start selling...The next stretch is essentially the season, they arent going to make the playoffs if they go

FLYERS MAPLE LEAFS (L)
FLYERS JETS (L) due to fatigue
FLYERS DEVILS (L) devils playing well tough game
FLYERS CANADIENS (L) next day game
FLYERS ISLANDERS (w) its the islander
FLYERS PENGUINS (L) hard to play penguins @ home

i think that what it will turn out to be, then they will sell. It doesnt look good but im not an optimist so...

Yea, but it's a lightning rod for those who opposed the trade from the get go. And to toss fuel into the fire, all the reports out of TO which stated Luke was too slow a foot to make a difference on defense have a little more merit today.
- 77rams

Not in my opinion, it doesn't. If you truly know why Schenn got beat on that play.

I'm under the impression that Luke Schenn's ceiling is something close to Derian Hatcher or Adam Foote in their primes with his floor being what he is now (which isn't bad at all). He's still young and defensemen progress slower than forwards so we'll see how it works out.

I'd also like to point out that we've seen JVR play like this before. The key is consistency for him, which is still up in the air.

I think the Flyers have too many good young players with upside to start selling. And the vets they do have that are desirable have NMCs (I think).

The coach is probably going to be the one to pay if the road trip goes down the way you are proposing.

Good point but I still think they'll finish ahead of NYI, FLA, WSH, WPG, CBJ, COL, CGY at the very least. They seem more like an average team than a bad one, IMO.

Yep. Then V utilizes the gravitational pull of the net to help him swing around

I'm not too bent out of shape about the trade because I think Schenn brings something like that physical presence in the d-zone that they needed so badly last year. Outside of him there's Grossmann and Coburn that can do it but even Coburn isn't that physical imo. I don't think the trade was about which player was better but what each team needed.

But Lindros was in his declining years. It was only a matter of time for him - perhaps as soon as any given shift.

JVR has a long career ahead of him and he'll only be getting better. He seems to have settled in nicely with TO, and that doesn't bother me at all. I'm hoping he becomes what we've all projected him to be while he was here.

Podein was on WIP last week and he said he was rooting for Colorado to beat the Wings in the conference finals and as soon as the the Wings won, he literally cried because he didn't think they could beat them. it was a very interesting conversation.

I think you're right. If they come home with only one win, Lavi will pay the price. Unfortunate, but life's not fair, is it?

I can see it too but I wouldn't like it. Just wish this team would get their heads out of their asses and play like pros on a consistent basis.
- JoeRussomanno

Its a lot to ask of a young team. They are gonna be like this all season. I just hope they dont make stupid decisions. Part of what I love about this org, is also something I hate. They are always eager to win ( i love) but lack of patience damns developing a winner.

I agree with you. The trade was about need + surpluses on either team. I'm fine with the trade. The offensive struggles have little to do with the personnel and I don't think JVR would have made that big of a difference, especially considering a huge hole in the D would be open without Schenn on the team.

The Flyers traded a good player with a lot of potential. I'm glad to see JVR play well. But we got the same in return. Just a different position.

What I'd like to see Lavy do is burn a timeout on the first lackadaisical shift and blast them. Also maybe do some herb brooks suicides after the game if they get smoked again.

my sentiments exactly. having subtracted forwards from this lineup, i would have wanted homer to expand the deal to bring back another forward w/ some kind of scoring potential - like kadri- to give us another asset. maybe JVR and a 2nd or 3rd for schenn and kadri. not that i'm in love w/ kadri, but from a value standpoint.
- isaiah520

I'd still prefer Schenn over Kadri. They have guys that are similar to Kadri on the roster. They needed defensive help. They obviously felt they could get a better puck mover in free agency.

the JVR goal was just as important as the McGinn goal. game was over and decided. the secondary scoring won that game for the "Leaves".
