Wanting something to happen, and having it be a realistic return, are two different things. Wanting more in return is just playing fantasy Hockey. - MJL
I was not the only one who wanted more for JVR . look it up...were all of those people playing fantasy hockey or were they just making a value judgment? |

The truth is, in hind sight, that '97 team was lucky to make the finals.
They were a one-line team, plus Rod Brind'Amour. - johndewar
I wouldn't say lucky, they were in the conference finals two years prior losing in 6 to the eventual cup winners, who in turn smoked their finals opponent much worse than what they did to the Flyers. That team was up there and needed another piece or two. |

I was so sure they were winning the cup that yr. I was at game 1 and after the game I knew they were in trouble. I'm not usually so pessimistic after one loss but man, I just knew - nastyflyergirl

You are missing my point, if the choice is between 2 relatively equally skilled players who both play hard, I would prefer the bigger guy. I'm not asking for major changes, I just think they could use one more legitimate top 6 power forward with size. - BiggE
When Hartnell is back, I feel size isn't a big issue up front, so long as guys drive to the net.
If you don't go to the net, it doesn't matter if you're 235 lbs or 165 lbs. |

Not true at all. The Otto-Podein-Klatt line was a dominating checking line. |

I was there too, and I disagree to some extent. The Flyers goalies gave up at least one soft goal, often horribly soft, in each of the first 3 games. That will deflate any team.
I'm not saying that if they got better goaltending, they would have won the series, but at least it would have been much more competitive. - BiggE
I was so in awe of the Wings being all over the Flyers I forgot about the soft goals. |

they are willing to pay, for sure. the players just opted to go elsewhere. i don't blame the organization for that. |

I'd still prefer Schenn over Kadri. They have guys that are similar to Kadri on the roster. They needed defensive help. They obviously felt they could get a better puck mover in free agency. - Jsaquella
on July 1, they still could have signed carle, but they obvi went in a diff direction. |

Way too early to tell. - NickTheKid87
No, it really not. I think the mindset was when we had any interest in Luke, no matter how remote, it was do to the impact Pronger was leaving behind. We already had Brayden, Homer wanted another hammet. Truth is, if we really wanted to move jvr, we should have put him towards a Shea Weber or a Pk Subban. If, if, if you.com get one of those guys, they fill a need. Luke Schenn never did. Again, it isn't too early to tell. That Patrick Kane draft was a while ago now. Jvr has always been gifted and could have been a solid future winger to Giroux. Now Giroux has nothing at his speed. |

there's still something fishy about that whole scenario. who backs down from a handshake agreement? we may never know what really happened. |

With the way Giroux is playing right now, do you think it matters who's lining up next to him?
When they traded JVR for Schenn, they had a surplus of forwards, which they did, and they wanted to get some youth on the blueline. When the trade was made, Carle, Suter and Weber were all still options, Carle being the most realistic and I think we all expected him to get re-signed. It's easy to criticize the trade when the team struggles but how many games have Schenn & JVR played on their new teams? It's far too early to say who won or lost and, quite frankly, it doesn't really matter. |

Like I said early, we have all seen JVR play like he is in Toronto right now as you mentioned. What we haven't seen is him do that on a consistent basis. We'll see how things progress for him but he's far from proven. |

Doesn't matter who wanted more. It matters what the market is. Just throwing names like wanting Kadri is playing fantasy Hockey. That's overvaluing JVR. And not thinking the Flyers got enough, is undervaluing Luke Schenn in my opinion. |

WHAT! you mean it was the 26 mil in signing bonus on a potential lockout year and not the amazing Philly fans that influenced Weber to sign the offer sheet?
I am so disillusioned! |
