didnt it have something to do with that richards and carter refusing to sign a contract to their teamates saying that they would not drink alcohol that season? - joshs
Why the frank should a grown adult have to do that? Thats a joke. Try asking players from the 70's and 80's that and see what you get lol |

The way I understand it is that the lottery is only for the #1 pick now, though. After the 1st pick is awarded, the other teams, 2-14 are ranked in order. - buffalofan19
Yes. That's correct, but each non-playoff team does have a chance. |

Why?
If they don't make the playoffs, there's a chance, although slim, we land MacKinnon or Jones. How are we f#$%ed? - Powerslave
It was more of a joke because we never seem to catch any luck here in buffalo. We will end up being the worst team in the NHL yet we will end up drafting 10th |

they don't have an equal shot.....every non-playoff team has a shot to move up to first overall, but it's not equal. it will be similar to the way the lottery worked after the last lockout, but will only include non-playoff teams. - sensarmy_11
Yes. Sorry. Shouldn't have used the word "equal". Every non playoff team does have the chance at #1, but it isn't equal. My bad. You are correct. Sorry for the confusion, people.

This draft seems pretty deep. Even if you don't get #1 overall, you're still going to come away with a really good prospect in the top 5, probably even top 10. The #1 pick isn't a must-have though, like, say, in a couple of years when Connor McDavid is draft eligible. |

Agreed. I don't think we are 1-2 years away from being a contender.
But its not the buffalo way. We will take are mediocre team and try adding a piece or two and try to be a 7th/8th place team. - Smittyx36
100% correct
we havent had a top 5 pick other than vanek since 87 with pierre |

|
I'm pretty sure the lottery for the remaining picks is gone. - buffalofan19
yeah, that came out wrong. was more referring to the fact that, like that season, teams would all have a shot at 1st pick, and the teams chances would be weighted the same as it was that year. |

That's not true this year. The draft lottery was changed. A team can fall more than 1 spot now. |

To your point, if the trade is Ennis + for O'Reilly, you do it in a heartbeat! |

They were talking about it on the NHL network right after the lockout ended. I can't find anything solid on it at the moment though. But I was shocked by it. |

from what i heard its pretty much the same except instead of only being able to move up or down a max of 5 spots you now have the chance to move up to top spot, for all non playoff teams. |

I wouldn't trade Ennis + for ROR. Would love the guy on our team but Ennis brings this team the speed element that we need on the second line. Kid can score and set up scoring opportunities. Would definitely make for a better second line winger then Centreman, but as of now who really could play 2nd line Centre for this club ? I can see a line of Grigorenko centering him and Armia in the future being lethal. Foligno and Stifford are doing absolutely nothing for the guy right now. |

A team could only move up 4 spots in the old CBA, in the new one (and I'm unsure if it is only this year or not) every team that is in the bottom 14 has a shot to win the lottery. If they get lucky enough to win the lottery they pick 1st or which ever spot they get when they are pulled out of a hat. |

Was just voted one of the top 3 power forwards in the league by NHL network.

i would hope that vanek is untouchable.....unless you guys want to guarantee yourselves the 1st or 2nd overall pick. - sensarmy_11
Vanek, Miller, and Pommer's contract are up after next season.
Miller will be 34
Vanek will be 30
Pommer will be going on 32
IMO only Pommer resigns.
You don't let Miller and Vanek walk for nothing. |
