40 playing professional hockey is kind of crazy. I am 36 and play one day a week. I ache for days after that. Just shows how these guys are in such great shape to take the pounding they put there bodies thru. - Stinkfitz
i play once a week as well, and feel great most of the time after playing- aside from my groin/back issue which i've been living with for years so i'm just used to it. in fact, when i'm skating often any physical thing bugging me goes away because i'm focused on the game.
i guess what i'm saying is i don't FEEL old. i can see how well conditioned guys without chronic/nagging injury could play into their 40s. |

I guess I never realized how many ex-players we have on the boards. I'll attempt to not be too humbled.
I've never played hockey in my life. My tiny Texas town upbringing is making itself known. The closest rink was a 6 hour drive away. And sure the puddles froze over but you sure as heck didn't go walking on them... Being a girl I had to fight to keep my soccer team alive. We played the boys for a couple of seasons.
I didn't fall in love with hockey until I fled to the east coast. - FlyersGrace
It's hard when you don't grow up with the sport. When I was a kid, the Flyers were winning back to back Stanley Cup and I was playing hockey in my socks on a linoleum floor against my dad.
I agree with the adage, if you want to create a hockey fan, take him or her to live game. It is the greatest combination of speed, power and excitement on the planet. |

I miss playing. Down here, the nearest ice is an hour's drive away, but I was playing roller and dek, until I got a concussion. I was toying around with joining a Dek league near #23's house, but this last concussion has me hanging up the ax for good |

No, they don't...but quirks are fun. Like in The Big Lebowski, why didn't they take the suitcase full of money into the alley with them? Who leaves $1mm in a briefcase in a car? |

Whitney from Edmonton probably cost too much, eh?
He's been benched for a few games and isn't happy. |

that's exactly how i got started - just with my neighbor, and not your dad. then to the driveway, street, and gym floor, and onto the ice eventually.
i went to my first nhl game (flyers-isles at the spectrum) 2 weeks after i saw hockey for the first time ever - the 80 olympics on tv - as i've shared many times. i'll never forget that night - and as a 7 year old that experience quickly turned me into a hockey fanatic for life. i remember literally getting depressed when the 3rd period started during the 4 or 5 games i was able to attend a year as a kid - because it meant the game was going to be over soon. by contrast, i was thrilled the 3 period started against the leafs the other night for the same exact reason.

That's a cool story. I grew up with the Flyers and it appealed to me from a very young age. I think the first Flyer I ever knew was Lindros. My younger bro and I used to play hockey in are parents room. I always made him play goalie. |

I saw that for the first time a few months ago and I love the character. Jeff Bridges was amazing. The subtleties of his performance were second to none. |

I remember when that happened to me, or at least when I noticed one that was. Eric Lindros - Jsaquella
Not Kimbi Daniels or Yanick Dupre? They were the first ones younger than me, but I didn't notice until Lindros, either. |
