This seems to have been the case for the last few years, dating back to when Richards and Carter were around and Giroux was still emerging.
Any thoughts on letting Couturier play wing on a line centered by Briere? - johndewar
Couturier is the teams best defensive Center, and is often matched up against top lines, and put out for key defensive zone starts. I don't see Couturier and Briere as a good match.

I hope not. Would have to be a stud, puck-moving defenseman coming back the other way, imo. - bradleyc4
we are just starting to see why he was rated so high. I'd just as soon watch him build his value up for the off season. |

Tangradi for a 7th, Ponikarovsky for a 4th and 7th, Ellerby for a 5th, Loktionov for a 5th, Lovejoy for a 5th. We could get a HAUL for a 2nd. - NickTheKid87
Too bad no one wants to play with Homer in the sandbox! |

I'd aim a little lower at a guy like Dave Steckel in Toronto. Could probably be had for a mid-to-late round pick, provides stability at the 4C spot and take a little off the shoulders of Giroux on the PK. - bradleyc4
Steckel would be ideal. Big, good on draws, solid defensive player...nice moderate cap hit(same as Jody Shelley's) |

It wouldn't happen soon though. Steckel got moved to the 3rd line with Kadri and McArthur. Steckel is a good centre for the 3rd or 4th line... excellent on faceoffs too. |

The Flyers have surprised me so far. I thought they would have more wins and be scoring more.
A few of you mentioned you thought they might be willing to part with Brayden Schenn.
That surprises me.
I don't get to see many Flyer games. How has Simmonds looked so far? - Sabata
When he's played, I think Simmonds has been one of their most consistent players on a nightly basis. Problem is, he was out for a few games with a concussion.
And I don't think anyone is looking to dump BSchenn. It's more of a case where you want to see if you can patch the multiple holes via trade and looking at BSchenn as a means to get that done (as opposed to Couturier, who the Flyers are not going to trade right now at all). I'd be happy to see BSchenn here for the long haul. |

I would be surprised if they moved Schenn as well.. it would have to be a hell of a return.
Simmonds has been great. He missed a few games with the concussion, but is a beast in front of the net.. a few better bounces and he would likely have 8-9 goals. |

For the Flyers to part with Brayden Schenn, it'd take a proven scoring winger who could play with Giroux or a top pair puck moving defenseman that could QB a powerplay.
The Flyers are dealing with growing pains. Lot of kids being asked to carry bigger roles and they're missing a guy like Matt Carle, who helped bring offense from the blueline.
Simmonds has looked solid since his return from the concussion. He's battling in front and being a physical presence, but he's been hurt by his linemate's inconsistentcies |

Simmer is a boss.
And I could see them moving Schenn in a deal for Yandle if Phoenix's price came down which doesn't seem overly likely. I like Schenn a lot too. |

Thanks for the update on Simmonds. I really like his playing style.
That's what I thought with Schenn.
Given your remarks about Couturier it sounds like he will be a Flyer for a long time.

Same style player... he isnt as fierce as Goose, but fits the same mold. Id be on board.
Scary stat of the day: Faceoff %
Talbot: 46.7
Couts: 43.8
Schenn: 40.4
Briere: 25.0 - jak521
You left out Fedotenko only winning 28.9% of his draws.
But it's no wonder Giroux has taken and won the most faceoffs in the entire league given his supporting cast. |

I'd rather not trade him at all. But if it means getting Bogosian or someone like him, I'd consider it. |

Why haven't we heard Tangradi rumors? He's actually from a section of Philly unlike BOB RYAB and he still lives here in the offseason. |

He'd be a perfect fit here, imo. But I can understand Nonis not wanting to create a void on the 3rd line just to acquire a 5th round pick. |

Sounds about right for Schenn. Glad to hear Simmonds is playing well. He is the type of player the Oilers desperately need. Of course every team in the league could use a player like Simmonds.
The few games I have seen I like the way the Flyers are playing. Lots of speed.
