Most of their issues have come from not being able to finish chances and simple breakdowns(a bad or ill advised pass, blow coverage, inability to clear the puck out of the zone)
The nice thing is, if Holmgren keeps the kids together, they'll have a good team for awhile. Couturier just turned 20. Schenn is 21, Voracek, Simmonds and Giroux are all 25 or under. Tye McGinn is 22. Luke Schenn is 23. The "veteran" defensemen like Coburn & Grossmann are 27 or 28, so there's a ton of young guys. - Jsaquella
What I like is they all have size. The only core player under 6 feet is Giroux. I envy the team size especially given their speed. The only player of the Oilers core forwards over 6 feet is Taylor Hall. They need to find a way to add some size.

How he is still an Eagle is ridiculous. - Jsaquella
Who needs a championship? They're already printing money with the status quo, as long as they fire somebody every once in a while they'll be fine. |

Vick makes me sick, cant cheer for the Eagles as long as he is one - vejim
I just think he's a bad QB and that they can't win with him. Don't care about the other stuff. |

There's people that think they're too small!
It's a nice mix of players, too. They're a little center heavy, as Giroux, Briere, Schenn & Couturier are best in the middle. |

add Briere into that "short" list. He might be 5 10 soaking wet on his toes. |

I remember the days when the local TV stations had to buy as many as 5000 tickets just to keep the Eagles out of a Philly area blackout. |

They list him at 5'10", which, as you noted, is laughable if you've ever seen him up close, in person. |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Trade Rumors and Realities, Flyers Quick Hits - bmeltzer
Lately some including myself have been taking some heat for maybe not being positive enough and lacking faith in this team. I will say what have said since I joined this site. This current roster does not excitement me. I don't feel there is a player on this roster who can at the level we know giroux can. This team isn't a huge steaming pile of crap but if we are lucky enough to make the playoffs, I feel we would only squeeze in at seventh or eighth. I feel we are a tenth spot in the east at the absolute worst. In my opinion, if this team has obvious holes and needs, you have to ask how we are good enough to make the playoffs. Aside from the team to work harder and play consistently for 60 minutes, I feel most of the players are too young or at least lack experience right now to compete with the best. With this said our young players will someday be great. I don't feel we are great today, but I have no doubt we will be in a couple years. This is me just being.objective and honest with myself. I want to be wrong and have the same faith as most. |

The Flyers do have an open contract slot, since Laughton was sent back to Oshawa.
Despite the chemistry shown by Prospal and Briere, Vinny doesn't really address any real need. Granted he could allow Briere to be more of a sniper, but combining Giroux and Briere produced poor results and Giroux's a better playmaker than Vinny.
The best asset Prospal brings, IMO, is veteran presence. - Jsaquella
prospal has shown no interest in wanting to be a flyer. don't want him back for a 3rd time.

I'm one of the more optimistic folks on here and I didn't see them as more than a 5 or 6 seed at best, heading into the season. This is a young team that is built as much for the future as today and expecting them to win the Atlantic this year would have been unrealistic.
Had they nabbed one of the guys they went after this summer in free agency, then those kind of expectations would be justified. |
