you cannot compare turris to o'reilly
turris hadnt even cracked an NHL lineup full time... o'rielly has three full seasons under his belt.. sorry.. but completely different scenarios - Dozzer
So the fact that Turris a guy that hadn't cracked a line up netted a return of Runblad and a secound rounder, says what the return for O'reilly should be. |

Your looking at points and making your assessment. The intangibles that you miss, are his defensive game and not hurting you, in a close game. You win Cups with guys like that, not with guys like Stastny and Wolski. - PrinceLH
I think you forget how good Stastny used to be. |

It better then him walking at the end if the year - The_Vark
He cant walk, unless its back to Russia, and that didnt work out for him very well during the lock out. 4 years to a UFA, gets sheeted there will be compisation, Avs could match and still trade him. |

For a team in desperate need of a 2nd line centre, like OTT was when they made that trade. |

What has Gardiner or Reilly proved? Just being devils advocate. - A_Tree
That they have special Talents that separate themselves from regular everyday NHL defense men |

that he can't do. He can be 1/3 of the first Lebanese line though, you ever thought of that? |

No, I don't see the appeal or need of using so many, that's all. |

true, they are both full of potential but those special offensively gifted defense men are harder to come by than a 6 ft 200lb center man who isn't know for having soft hands and projects to be more of a MIke Peca rather than a Mike Modano - billyberg10
There risk involved but thats how it works... |

listen i know gardiner has upside
but liles is here for 3 more years.. and rielly is in the system now
one of gardiner or rielly are expendable.
its really that simple.. both will want to be the number one PMD in the future so the leafs wont be able to keep both - Dozzer
Why are you so confident that Liles will be here for 3 years. Between compliance buy outs and trades I actually think it's safe to assume that of the 3 guys you keep mentioning that Liles is the odd man out |

I'm grateful to have the prospective puck movers on the back end who can make Liles expendable. |

So let's say the Leafs make the deal for him. They still have to sign him and he'll still want his 5mill, no? - 1979AD
I wonder if (like J. Staal) he and his agent have decided that he needs to get out if he is going to get the opportunity to be a top level guy. Duchene and Statsny are blocking him right now. Is he happy being a number 3 for another couple of years?
It's rumoured he turned down 17 milly over 5 years. Asking for 5 milly doesn't mean that's what it'll take to get a deal done though. |

now's not the time to decide (Rask / Pogge)
Having 2 puck rushing offensive defense men with major upside is not a problem its a luxury - billyberg10

Still... are you going to give up valuable assets in return for not only the question mark that he'll continue to develop into the player that's expected, but that he'll be willing to sign a reasonable contract? |
