So we do get SOME good news.
Not only is Jonas Seigel reporting that Brown feels good and might be good to go tonight,
but also, Dan Ellis starts for CAR.
So it's no Ward tonight, no Spezza-Karlsson-Michalek on saturday, then a trip to FLA.
Would be nice if we could get Gunnarsson back but apparantly rehab's been up and down |

Still... are you going to give up valuable assets in return for not only the question mark that he'll continue to develop into the player that's expected, but that he'll be willing to sign a reasonable contract? - 1979AD
It's pretty simple dude, you make a deal dependent on whether or not he signs an extension.

This is the issue though - is O'rielly really a number 1 center?
You know - upon his arrival - he immediately become a number 2 at best, right? - A_Tree
forsure... definitely not trying to say he's a bona fide number 1 right now... only that i'd be willing to take a shot at it... |

Ridiculous discussion.
I don't buy for one second that Nonis has seriously inquired about O'Reilly.
He's only marginally better than Bozak, and won't come cheap.
We'd be giving up assets we can't afford because draft picks need to be kept. Prospects need to be developed and depth players are getting ice time because of all these injuries.
If we have a problem at centre right now it's that our 28m$ Grabovski is pointless in 8, and better damn well show up tonight. |

2 things:
1) If ROR is so amazing defensively with takeaways and going to become a 60-70 pt centre to boot, why won't the Avs give him his 5mill/yr?
2) Gardiner scored 30pts as a 21 year old rookie, with a couple highlight reel goals. Damn straight he's the next Bobby Orr. OK maybe not quite Orr, but could be a superstar. - 1979AD
Jeff Marek made that point on twitter. Basically, he's a star player when they're negotiating a trade for him, but not when they're negotiating a contract with his agent. No wonder teams aren't biting right away at their asking price. |

Had the same, but it was my 3rd grade French teacher and I told her to impale herself on a tack encrusted Richard.

I never liked the idea of trading for RFAs who have high contract demands.
You basically give up assets for the ability to overpay a player. If O'Reilly wants 5 mil a year he can stay at home for all I care.

Franson is playing amazing. And Ron wilson benching him was the stupidest thing ever since he played really good on Nashville and now Carlyle has transformed him into a beast. That is all. - Mapleleafs_91
So good he was consistently their #7 defenceman in ice time.

Not your fault, he was twice your size and he had you in a vulnerable position. At least he had lube and said thank you after. |

He kinda got the shaft under RW.
So far I think he's done very well. With Liles and Phaneuf underwhelming he is the one Dman who is contributing offensively.
He didn't take a fat contract like Komi and yet I constantly see Franson taking more flack at 1.1m per over Komi's 4.5 per.
I don't see any reason why we should keep Liles after this year.
With Gardiner, Dion and Franson we have enough offensive power on the blueline to rid ourselves of Liles' deal, and Nonis never having signed it means he really isn't obliged to keep him.

Mclaren > Brown - toskala4vezina
If the topic is fighting then yes.
Every other aspect of the game Brown gets the nod.
He's a decent skater, intense and loves to hit(kinda like Komarov).
It's just so nice to have Brown, Orr and Mclaren out there. We have three of the best fighters in the league.

You forgot defensively, with Franson utilizing his big body, hitting guys, blocking them out to the sides or against the boards, and HIS LONG reach with his stick for the puck(no sexual reference), he has been one of the best defenders on the ice. I give credit also to fraser too |
