exactly, sure he's an upgrade over Bozak, but at what cost?
I think it would be too high, and quite honestly, I'd rather get a big body down the middle to go along with Kadri, Grabovksi. - Barx
Sadly, that's not on the menu. |

I'd take that deal, for no other reason than we have a nice stock of players and prospects on defence, and nothing at centre. - Atomic Wedgie

ESPN.COM: Craig Custance listed the Toronto Maple Leafs, Calgary Flames and Phoenix Coyotes as his top trade destinations for Colorado Avalanche holdout center Ryan O’Reilly.
NEW YORK POST: Larry Brooks reports the NY Rangers have “checked in” on O’Reilly, but are “very unlikely” to deal for the holdout center. Brooks claims the Rangers have a policy of signing RFAs lacking salary arbitration rights to two-year “bridge deals” (O’Reilly is believed seeking a five-year deal). The Blueshirts also have Ryan McDonagh, Derek Stepan and Carl Hagelin to re-sign this summer, plus they also currently have around $5.22 million in available cap space.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Rangers, if they wanted, could move some salary via trade for O’Reilly, plus as Brooks noted, they still have an amnesty buyout remaining after this season. Still, given their policy regarding RFAs without arbitration rights and O’Reilly’s salary demands, it does appear as though the Rangers aren’t a fit. As for those destinations listed by Custance, TSN’s Darren Dreger claimed the Avs were talking to Eastern Conference teams regarding O’Reilly, so that would rule out – for now, anyway – the Flames and Coyotes.
So basically... Oreilly is already a leaf.
let the ridiculous debate begin again - dragus84
Well thats kinda stupid if you ask me, im pretty sure buffalo is up there since they want a center as well, heck even the isles or devils should be interested... there a several teams interested obviously not just us

I say keep Gardiner and try and get rid of Gunnersson for O'Reilly, I doubt they'd take Bozak as well though - he is a UFA at the end of the season is he not? - steve362
Gunnarson doesn't get it done.
Bozak is an interesting one - I wonder how much value he holds.
Note to trolls: I'm fully aware he doesn't have as much value as Leafs fans think he does. |

gunnar is not going to be a centre piece in any deal for a 50-70 point, 2-way centre who is only 22. |

i'm no hipster.. but i will drink pabst cause its cheap as (frank) - Dozzer
Same. I wouldn't drink it at a bar or whatever but I have some in my beer fridge at home (bought it for the Super Bowl since nothing more tailgate than PBR, wings and chili).
If I'm drinking beer watching a game at home I don't really care what it is. But if I'm paying $5 a bottle or getting a pint then I'm going to get something else. |

gunner and bozak - JIMI-JAMES
has anyone thought about grabo? arent the avs his fav team?
if o'reilly came here and was given 5million that would mean the leafs would have 35.775 million tied up in grabo, kessel, jvr, lupul, o'reilly, phaneuf, and liles.
thats 7 of a 22 man roster
if komi gets bought out (which i am assuming will happen) there is another 8.4 million wrapped up in 6 guys and another 2 dedicated to buyouts
so now the leafs are at 46.175million with only 15 guys signed leaving only 18million to sign 9 guys
thats alot of 2million dollar players especially with 4 d-men to sign
not impossible.. but not exactly preferable |

Probably not! This raises the question: Does having Reilly make Gardiner expendable considering the player we would be receiving?

I put more value on a supreme puck moving defensemen.....we have barely scraped the surface in terms of what Gardiner might be capable of....
I would be terrified to trade him for anything less than a bonifide number 1 centre. |

lol.. so the avs dont want a guy who would want to play for them signed for the forseeable future?
i think he fits the roster player role fine..he offense is tough to gauge right now since that line is being used as a shut down line |

Hey all, I ended up watching the replay of the game on LeafsTV, a stinkerooo.
One thing I will give credit to the refs for, is the Bozak hit on Skinner, if players keep trying to turn their back to face the boards on a hit that is coming, they deserve everything they get, that was a great non-call.
Only other thing worth while in the game was Fraser pummeling Skinner with that hit. - LeafMan
That hit was a beauty. It's going to be awfully tough to take Fraser out of the line-up. |

I don't think it would cost that much if Grabo was part of a deal. Grabo and Gunnersson would likely get it done. But I'm not sold on trading Grabovski. I love that guy! |

In terms of cap hit, he's currently the 20th highest paid centre in the league.
No way around this fact: he's overpaid. I understand that the Leafs had to overpay, because if he walked, we'd be deader than a doornail, but still.
If you are going to propose Grabbo in a deal, you have to be willing to eat some salary, or give up something else to increase his value.
$5.5 million cap hit on a 2nd line centre is just waaaaaaay too much. |

So Grabovski and Gunnarson for O'Reilly?
Bozak plays with Lupul and Kulemin... Maybe. Than you have Frattin, and Komarov playing with kadri.
1st line is JVR O'reilly and Kessel...
hmmm... |
