nope.. it would be grabo and a prospect.
they need D tho.. nhl quality D
i imagine thats what the avs are looking for - Dozzer
Well....Liles played in Colorado!
By the way, he was effing brutal last night. I really want to fall in love with him again, but when you pinch and give up a 3 on 0, and then you can't even skate back in time to pick up the 3rd guy who trails and bangs home the rebound, you need to go sit on the bench for a while and think about what you have done. |

Oh, let's let him have this. He's had to bottle up his rage for 5 games now. That can't be healthy. |

I don't think it would cost that much if Grabo was part of a deal. Grabo and Gunnersson would likely get it done. But I'm not sold on trading Grabovski. I love that guy! - steve362
yeah me too.. but ya gotta give to get.. and really.. cant have two 5million dollar second line centres
and thats why i threw colborne in as well. so long as the avs added the 2nd. if kadri and o'reilly were both part on the leafs those are your top 6 centres. so you might as well move colborne while he still has value and hasnt become a career AHLer yet. |

Top 6 of Kessel, Lupul, O'Reilly, Kadri, Frattin, JVR.
Not too bad.
Still missing a #1 center, though |

In terms of cap hit, he's currently the 20th highest paid centre in the league.
No way around this fact: he's overpaid. I understand that the Leafs had to overpay, because if he walked, we'd be deader than a doornail, but still.
If you are going to propose Grabbo in a deal, you have to be willing to eat some salary, or give up something else to increase his value.
$5.5 million cap hit on a 2nd line centre is just waaaaaaay too much. - Atomic Wedgie
i know.. look at the entire deal i proposed.
grabo, gunnar, and colborne for O'reilly and a second
2 NHLers, one to fit the centre hole left by O'rielly, and a steady NHL d-man
with a nice forward prospect tossed in as well.
thats a good return for an unsigned RFA |

kadri's eventual role.
he's damn near a PPG pace getting 3rd line minutes. i think he has a legit shot of becoming a first line centre truthfully. not right away.. but i like what i am seeing. |

I'm going to defy conventional thinking for a second and argue that you could build a winner with two good top 6 centers, even if neither are great.
You just need to surround them with size and talent (easier said than done, obviously).
But let's just say you could land Perry and O'Reilly. Would our lack of an elite #1C stand out as such a glaring problem? |

knuckledragger??? Why because he tougher than Emelin with his cage on? |

not straight up....I just mean I don't think O'Reilly is a bonifide number 1.
We already have 3 number 2 centremen |

I agree, actually. Tenacity, insane skill, physicality. Only things holding him back are size(not the biggest issue), faceoff skills, and defense.
Kadri can be our #1 center.... but then the question is, why acquire O'Reilly?
Do we think he's going to put up the same numbers in a #2 shutdown or #3 offense role? |

True. I don't think they really have to 'dump salary', if you look at their cap breakdown - very good position. Leafs just need to offer up talent for the future. I'm not sure they're concerned about winning NOW.
Probably a good indication that this is not the right team to deal with right now... |

fair enough, not saying I want to ship Gardiner anywhere...
but I do like Oreilly.
I see your point though, if we are going to ship a blue chip prospect, it would make sense to package it in order to obtain a 1C.
That being said, I don't think too many teams are willing to move their 1C at all...

You are absolutely spot on here.
If the deal for O'Reilly centered (no pun intended) around Grabo, you're probably looking at shipping out a prospect, too.
Grabo and a surplus d-man? Maybe a pick, as well? I'd do that deal easily. |
