I'm going to defy conventional thinking for a second and argue that you could build a winner with two good top 6 centers, even if neither are great.
You just need to surround them with size and talent (easier said than done, obviously).
But let's just say you could land Perry and O'Reilly. Would our lack of an elite #1C stand out as such a glaring problem? - Leeman4Gilmour
This is true. We already have 3 pretty damn good top-6 wingers in Lupul, Kessel, and JVR. 2 of them were PPG last season, and the other is starting to show signs of coming into his own as a power(ish) winger.
JVR-Kadri-Perry
Lupul-O'Rielly-Kessel
(1A, 1B lines, really)
Kulemin-Bozak-Frattin
Orr-Komarov-Brown
yep. Looks pretty good to me.
And if we could luck out and get both Perry AND Getzlaf... |

I agree, actually. Tenacity, insane skill, physicality. Only things holding him back are size(not the biggest issue), faceoff skills, and defense.
Kadri can be our #1 center.... but then the question is, why acquire O'Reilly?
Do we think he's going to put up the same numbers in a #2 shutdown or #3 offense role? - Feeling Glucky?
o'reilly is a shutdown centre primarily .. his offense is just a pleasant bonus for whatever team he ends up on |

fair enough, not saying I want to ship Gardiner anywhere...
but I do like Oreilly.
I see your point though, if we are going to ship a blue chip prospect, it would make sense to package it in order to obtain a 1C.
That being said, I don't think too many teams are willing to move their 1C at all... - dragus84
Nope...and if one where available it's gonna cost a whole lot more than Gardiner..
Proven #1 will cost u both Gardiner and Kadri or Frattin + |

You are absolutely spot on here.
If the deal for O'Reilly centered (no pun intended) around Grabo, you're probably looking at shipping out a prospect, too.
Grabo and a surplus d-man? Maybe a pick, as well? I'd do that deal easily. - Leeman4Gilmour
Avs apparently want a roster player and a high end type prospect as well? Probably have to think a little bigger. |

Well, considering we are here realistically discussing O'Reilly, and Perry is a UFA who probably won't resign in Anaheim, I'd say it's at least within the realm of the hypothetical. |

Me too.
I think you need to give him some huge wingers to compensate, but man, that kid can have his moments. - Atomic Wedgie
i thought it was a bit premature to say it but wasnt it Cole who said last saturday that his play reminded him of a young doug gilmour?
i can see it.. he's still got a ways to go.. but i can see that in his game |

Trade Grabo and Gardiner + colborne for O'Reilly and Downie + 2nd? - A_Tree
I don't know if adding Grabbo (not attractive to Colorado due to high salary) + Colborne (not attractive to anyone at the moment) really make it enough to obtain O'Reilly, but I do know for an almost fact that you are being far too greedy by asking for Downie and/or a 2nd. |

kadri's eventual role.
he's damn near a PPG pace getting 3rd line minutes. i think he has a legit shot of becoming a first line centre truthfully. not right away.. but i like what i am seeing. - Dozzer
The flip side to that as he's seeing 3rd line minutes he's also probably not playing against the top pairing dmen and a shutdown line. But, I agree, I've been impressed with him. Not convinced he's top line franchise centre good but he could be kind of a 1a/b centre guy...maybe. |

And it's going down to 64 Million next year.
Summer should be fun. Quite a few teams will have to make room for younger guys who's deals have expired. |

doesn't need to be proven, any more than gardiner has proven he's a number one dman.....but o'reilly doesn't have number one centre potential, more along the lines of a solid, shut down number 2. |

Personally, I think the Leafs need to stop being idle. I'm not sure this team is bad enough to fix the problem in the draft, and is obviously not good enough to continue on. Orielly is at least possibly a solution I don't think anyone can deny that when he is only 21 years old. |

Off the top of my head, the last guy I can recall being moved was Thornton. |
