Besides the trade talk, what is O'Reilly really worth in terms of dollars?
I realize Grabo got 5.5, but Subban only got 2.25.
4 mil per year for 3-4 years? How many restricted free agency years does he have left?
History has shown that RFAs don't have a lot of bargaining power. |

he's worth 4.5million long term lock up if you ask me.
shorter term = more money |

not entirely true for RFAs.
They want enough term to get them to UFA. If their UFA year is in a season or 2, they'd rather take that than a deal that goes 6 years, so they can renegotiate sooner. |

I think he has 5 years to UFAgency. Best comparisons from 2012 RFA class ....Benn got 5 x 5.25 and EKane got 6 x 5.25. Benn had an allstar appearance and a couple of 55pt + seasons on his side. Kane had a 30 goal season and both were the best players on their own teams.
O'Reilly has got to be a step or two below those two. UFA years cost more so I'd think if it's 4 years or less he'd be no more than 4ish per year. |

Yea, I don't really care with him one way or the other.
We don't really need him, but if we were to trade for him, I'd do Gardiner straight up, at the most... that'd be fair value.

Asking for a different team then Colorado I'd guess. Maybe there's no problem signing him once he's somewhere else. |

I don't know enough about O'Reilly to be able to say what he is or isn't but after watching the Staal brothers smother Leafs centres twice this year I'm all for targeting someone who can counter that kind of strength down the middle. |

Negotiations ...I kind of feel the same. Although after hearing O'Reilly's Dad tee off on the Avs ....hmmm. If his mom takes to Twitter this poop is as good as done. |

Yeah I know, it's completely speculative. Who knows though, maybe he doesn't think the team is willing to spend money to win. |

Yeah, I'd say so. They both have just one great season under their belt, but O'Reilly has two other seasons in the NHL, so more of a track record, and he's younger.
Also, he'd be an amazing addition to the Leafs. A guy looking like he could be an amazing two way first line centre in a few years. |

I'd like O'Reilly (as I've said a bunch of times already) but if he's not our guy that's fine, but I still think we need a solution for the top line centre. Which, I admit, O'Reilly probably isn't the solution to anyway. It's just hard to come across centres and I don't know where else we're going to get one.
Even if we do fall off the map this season I don't think we're so bad we end up high enough to get a first line C that is ready for duty in a year or two. I wouldn't ever bank on signing a first line centre through free agency, hasn't worked for us so far so not sure why this year would be any different. Top line centres don't really come up in trades often and when they do it costs a fortune to get them. I'm not convinced that Kadri is ready for first line duty although maybe he will be shortly.
So, I mean, what's the plan? Just wait and see with Kadri? Roll the dice on a UFA in the offseason? Hope that someone pops up at a reasonable price over the offseason? These aren't rhetorical, I really don't know. Or maybe I'm overly concerned about the centre position because, IMO, you need a legit top line centre to be a competitive team...yeah the Bruins won with Kreijci but that's the exception to the rule.
Can someone ease my mind on this stuff or am I spot on and we're pretty much screwed for the foreseeable future because we haven't made the centre spot a priority? |

I'll say this about Subban... being in a commercial talking about how he just wants to play and get back into the game, and then holding out is pretty hilarious. - Feeling Glucky?
so, just because he did that commercial, he forfeited all right to negotiate and should have accepted what was offered blindly? |

so yes he is worth more then that |
