lol he is only 23.. this is the year the leafs need to consider moving him.. he only has a couple years left to prove he can get it done. - Dozzer
Yeah he is only 23 but he hasn't shown any real steps of development in the last couple of years. I doubt Colorado would have a huge interest in him. Probably not the kind of prospect they'd be looking for. |

I feel like perhaps this page should be bookmarked for future reference just in case a trade for O'Reilly actually goes down.
Because I have a sneaking suspicion that one player's stock will rise, and the other's will fall. I'll let people draw their own conclusions about which is which. - Leeman4Gilmour
Put me on the side of not wanting to do a deal. THough every time I check tsn, I'm hoping Komisarek is on the move for a 4th round pick or something. |

He did last year before the wrist injury, and I think his numbers have improved since Kadri et all got the call-up giving him the prime time AHL time. Ashton I'm more worried about. |

Gardiner is overrated, no doubt.
But as with any young player who becomes available(and is rumoured to go to the Leafs), O'Reilly has become insanely overrated as well.
People talk about how the guy is on the market, start making proposals, and next thing you know people on forums are in a bidding war against eachother, and let the hype train take over.
On top of that, our habitants friends here are underrating Gardiner because he's recovering from a concussion and isn't in the line-up. - Feeling Glucky?
Yep. |

I'm maintaining hope that Ottawa would take Kaberle for a 5th round pick in order to get a little bit of help on the PP with Karlsson missing for the year. |

but this is also contingent on the concept that they get two roster players as well.
but if they want a top tier prospect.. the price tag will be gardiner and gunnarson.
thats my guess |

Like I said before, I'm on the fence.
If we do it, and it's for a decent package(Gardiner, Grabo+prospect, Gunnar+prospect, Bozak+prospect+2nd etc) I'd be ok with it. He's a good player to have, but not enough to break the bank. |

Right on.
I don't buy this idea that there is a line-up of teams waiting to make offers on the kid, either.
This new CBA situation means that you need the perfect mix of money, cap space, and tradable assets to land a guy like that.
Roughly a dozen teams are in Colorado's shoes: too broke to actually sign the cheques. Another dozen don't have the cap space heading forward. Of the remaining 8-10, not all are interested in him to begin with. |

For me, its not a matter of overating guys like Reilly or Gardiner. I've just seen this team burned so many times thinking the grass is greener on the other side, mostly because we're not a patient organization. Whether its Rask for Raycroft, or Steen and Carlo for Stempniak, Tlusty for Paradis...and almost Kadri for whoever, let the kids do their thing.....I have faith in Eakins, I think Gardiner is actually benefiting from being down there with Eakins. I'm 100% behind the status quo. |

the bolded is over generalizing. here is the thing with gardiner.. his strengths as a d-man arent what carlyle covets.
right now he has liles in that position.. and franson is doing well and has the size to use whereas gardiner.. not so much.. he is too much like liles.|
i am starting to see the way carlyle wants his d setup.
1 pure PMD (liles)
2 half and halfs (phaneuf, franson)
3 play the body shut down types (fraser, holzer, and kostka)
the only one i could see being removed right now to make room for someone like gardiner is kostka.. but then it take's carlyle's preferred balance away.
so long as carlyle is at the helm.. you arent going to see a PMD heavy defense. |

He'd be one team shy of playing for every team in the Northeast. Kinda weird to be bounced around so many rivals. |

The only thing to go on is this rumoured top prospect and roster player for O'Reilly. If there is a deal to make, then go for it, he is probably better (he is) than any one we have in the system and on the team. - LeafMan
Hard to know what the definition of "roster player" is.
I think of the Staal deal ....they wanted Sutter to replace Staal and that high 1st round pick ..and some throw in.
Staal >> O'Reilly ....so it should take something less than that. A good young affordable 3rd line player plus a prospect? |

Question....if the Avs don't want to pay him the money he is asking, why do you think they would have any interest in Grabo? |

20 years old when he put up 55 points is what I meant. He was 20 until late until that season. |
