How much contact in that league? Just asking, I don't know.
- LeafMan

She's in the US HS system. There's contact. She broke a dudes femur with her head and got a concussion

Hey, he could be useful on their PP!!!!!

*hopes*

- Pecafan Fan

yeah....with Markov, Pk and the emergence of Diaz, the Habs are probably one of the worst places for him right now.

Meh, I don't mind really, he's not even playing at the moment.
- Pecafan Fan

With PK back, he won't see much time unless an injury comes up.

Yea, but that strength is relative to your own body, not to other people trying to push you off the puck.
- Feeling Glucky?

True, but...

a) Equipment weight as a percentage of your weight would likely be lower for men. The equipment necessary to take a 100 MPH slap shot is the same for men and women, but men naturally have more muscle mass.

b) Men are naturally leaner than women, in that women tend to have higher fat-to-muscle ratios. Men would have efficiencies in both cases that women typically wouldn't.

Gross man...

Seriously though this girl has dominated the AAA boys league.

- A_Tree

It's a nice story ...but gender characteristics (size, weight, etc...) are not on her side. I saw a pic of her parents and they are pretty small looking.

They need some giant swedish woman to emerge - or for Patches to finally admit that (s)he's transgendered.

I don't think the equipment-to-body weight ratio makes that big of a difference, tbh.

As for being leaner... have you seen Marty?

Plus height, the trend is for keepers to be 6' or taller. Obviously there are tall women as well but the numbers would be lower, especially when you need a tall, athletic, flexible, strong woman that size who also has great reflexes.

So, yeah, I'm not all that surprised there aren't a lot of female keepers in the NHL. Not to be sexist or anything but I just don't think it's a good idea for women to be in the NHL, it's too physical a sport. Same with the NFL. Maybe MLB or NBA since there is a lot less physical contact but when you have 200+ lbs guys flying a top speed smashing you into glass? Yeah, that might not end well.

I'm not so sure.

I mean of course posting up against a man @ 6'4" 220lbs there is no contest. However superior skating and hand eye coordination may leave room for debate.

I was told/read that women cannot do pull ups do to their physical makeup? I swear it was some kind of science or fitness article.

Yeah, I suspect that if it were possible, it would have happened by now.

We've seen some exceptional female hockey players lately, including goalies, and none have been considered, even as a publicity stunt.

Yes. In the discussion of NHL goalies, when I mention Marty, I'm talking about you.

It's about strength.

I've played with elite-level women, and at the end of the day, they don't have a slapshot or wrist shot that is better than mine.

And forget about a one-on-one puck battle.

Hey, I'm all for giving them the opportunity.

I just don't see it actually happening in my lifetime.

For me, its not a matter of overating guys like Reilly or Gardiner. I've just seen this team burned so many times thinking the grass is greener on the other side, mostly because we're not a patient organization. Whether its Rask for Raycroft, or Steen and Carlo for Stempniak, Tlusty for Paradis...and almost Kadri for whoever, let the kids do their thing.....I have faith in Eakins, I think Gardiner is actually benefiting from being down there with Eakins. I'm 100% behind the status quo.

they can do it, it's just a lot harder for them.
