It can't be. We only gave up 3 pieces for Kessel....The picks that lead to Seguin, Hamilton, and Knight. Knight is a ECHL bust, and Hamilton is likely to become more like Tyler Myers, than Zdeno Chara. - p_zub
I think he means Bruins were able to trade their first away for Horton bc they had yours in the sequin pick |

listen i know gardiner has upside
but liles is here for 3 more years.. and rielly is in the system now
one of gardiner or rielly are expendable.
its really that simple.. both will want to be the number one PMD in the future so the leafs wont be able to keep both - Dozzer
So the question becomes who should the Leafs keep: Gardiner or Rielly??? |

but with rielly gardiner becomes expendable
cant have a back end full of PMDs.. not under carlyle. someone will have to be eventually moved.
gardiner had 30 points in 70 some odd games last year and everyone talks about him like he's the second coming of bobby orr.
i think leaf fans might be over-valuing him just a touch - Dozzer
So the future of having Rielly and Gardiner on the same line would not entice you, having guys like liles gone in 2 years, etc?
Would not say he is expendable just yet. |
|
|
|
And what about this year screams jvr is anything but a winger? Guaranteeing he stays a winger. Hell orielly between kess n loops would be 8incredible line balance defensively. And jvr kadri and frattin then grabs kuli and someone like mcclement kamorov and so on would be a very dangeroustop nine - Viktory
Because he didn't have the pre season to help adjust to playing center. The Leafs and Carlyle both said he would audition for the role, but without a pre season it made it kind of difficult. |

How about we sit and wait until we know which one is better? |

Eh up. We would have two Gilmour's then. It'd be like the family. A commentator said (can't remember Healy maybe?) said Kadri is like Gilmour. One can't have too many Gilmour's though. - walshyleafsfan
Kadri will never be a Gilmour. He's not the best defensive forward and he's not very good on draws. Someone like O'Reilly can shut down the other teams top line, if he has the wingers to work with him. I'm not convinced that Grabovski is that center, but that's who we're using. Grabovski could become expendable, if O'Reilly worked out. |

now's not the time to decide (Rask / Pogge)
Having 2 puck rushing offensive defense men with major upside is not a problem its a luxury

I'm with you on this one, Dozzer.
He's a good player.
I'd move him if I thought I could help the team at centre.
And never look back. |

Better idea, hey sherman, Stastny's sucking for you, trade him to us for Colborne, Bozak and a pick (3rd maybe), you take the money you're savign with Stastny and sign O'Reilly. Problem solved. - mykokes

Thats a solid option...
Thing is some looking at it as trying to fill a need at the center position like now rather than later... |

Dont get me wrong, but Liles is the one that is expendable, he is old with a good cap hit, lots of team would love him and we can get a good return come the deadline for him |

His strength in this department shows up on the PK, they guy can strip a puck and clear in cleanly time and time again. Its amazing how many fundamentaly sound plays he makes on the PK. - DDM-Coga

BINGO!
Gards is still developing, and Reilly as barely begun his hockey career. The best case scenario is that we hold on to both of these kids and count our lucky stars that O'reilly went to Columbus. |

Ya if the leafs went after o' Reilly ... I would try 2 put Garbo in the trade or use him 2 get picks after the trade

Looking back, a thought just cross my mind....at the same age O"reilly put up 57 points....
Stastny did this:
Colorado NHL 82 28 50 78 4
and Wolski did this:
2006-07 Colorado NHL 76 22 28 50 2

He has a terrible cap hit relative to his play post-concussion.
You simply won't get nearly as much trading Liles as you would trading Gardiner. |
