So the future of having Rielly and Gardiner on the same line would not entice you, having guys like liles gone in 2 years, etc?

Would not say he is expendable just yet.

(frank) no!!! why the hell would you pair two PMDs together?!?!?!?!

But having no first line centre and none in the pipeline is a problem.
- Atomic Wedgie

yep..A big problem...and when someone like O'Reilly becomes available u have to take a run at landing him..

It's draft and develop or trade for one...It's not happening via FA..Unless someone like Weiss is the ans..

now's not the time to decide (Rask / Pogge)

Having 2 puck rushing offensive defense men with major upside is not a problem its a luxury

- billyberg10

ok.. now this is a good (frank)ing argument lol

i concede

Looking back, a thought just cross my mind....at the same age O"reilly put up 57 points....
Stastny did this:
Colorado NHL 82 28 50 78 4

and Wolski did this:
2006-07 Colorado NHL 76 22 28 50 2

Is O'Reilly a first line centre He could be, but I think Gardiner has just as good a chance at being a top pairing d as O'Reilly does of being a #1 centre

It can't be. We only gave up 3 pieces for Kessel....The picks that lead to Seguin, Hamilton, and Knight. Knight is a ECHL bust, and Hamilton is likely to become more like Tyler Myers, than Zdeno Chara.

Something about allowing them to sign Horton due to salary space.

He has a terrible cap hit relative to his play post-concussion.

You simply won't get nearly as much trading Liles as you would trading Gardiner.

- Atomic Wedgie

3.8M is a bad cap hit for a veteran D-man like liles? your joking right? Several teams would take him at the trade deadline and guaranteed we would get the same return if not more than what we gave up to colorado.

2 things:

1) If ROR is so amazing defensively with takeaways and going to become a 60-70 pt centre to boot, why won't the Avs give him his 5mill/yr?

2) Gardiner scored 30pts as a 21 year old rookie, with a couple highlight reel goals. Damn straight he's the next Bobby Orr. OK maybe not quite Orr, but could be a superstar.

I'm more into vampires.

I just love the Twighlight Series.

Oh, and the Notebook. Oh how I love that movie.

Remember the scene where the hot chick decides that she no longer loves the rich douchy guy, but instead realizes that she loves the main character, who isn't rich but has a good heart?

Great, great movie.

I knew you were lurking......what do you see as O'Reilly's offensive upside? Points wise? and is that what you want from your #1 centre.

60-ish. Call him Ryan Staal and give him 7.9 mil and jizz all over how he's going to be on Team Canada as a lock.

when and if the proper deal arrives that we would have to consider trading one of Reilly or Gardiner, It better be in a package for a legit "star" center.

At this point O'reilly is nothing more than Bozak but with more potential.

You do not trade either of our blue chips for potential. you trade them for proven

To be honest, I have no effing idea how good O'Reilly is. I don't watch Colorado games.

But the general consensus seems to be the kid has Peca/Mike Richards potential or better.

So I'm fine with your assessment above that both have just as good a chance being a #1 guy.

If that's the case, you do the deal. Phaneuf is a #1. Reilly is hopefully a #1.

You can't say that about a single Leafs centre - on the team, or in the system.

Why wouldn't Montreal give Subban 5+ mil, why wouldn't the Stars give Benn 6 mil? Why wouldn't the Bruins give Kessel 5.5 mil? Guys coming off their rookie deals.
