So the avs won't take a combo of any of
Mac, kulie, garbo, Ashton, blacker, Finn, Percy, Biggs ?
When they risk losing him for nothing |

when and if the proper deal arrives that we would have to consider trading one of Reilly or Gardiner, It better be in a package for a legit "star" center.
At this point O'reilly is nothing more than Bozak but with more potential.
You do not trade either of our blue chips for potential. you trade them for proven - billyberg10
What has Gardiner or Reilly proved? Just being devils advocate. |

O'Reilly as close to a blue chipper as Gardiner is at this point...... - Fruitcakenipple
Yup,
With all the Depth at D, and 0 legit number 1 centers. i think its worth the risk
(not necessarily a knock on bozak... would love to keep him if oreilly were to work out and move grabo if possible) |

Looking back, a thought just cross my mind....at the same age O"reilly put up 57 points....
Stastny did this:
Colorado NHL 82 28 50 78 4
and Wolski did this:
2006-07 Colorado NHL 76 22 28 50 2
- mykokes
Your looking at points and making your assessment. The intangibles that you miss, are his defensive game and not hurting you, in a close game. You win Cups with guys like that, not with guys like Stastny and Wolski.

The next lidstrom and niedermyer potential. The next Weber and Suter pairing. The next ... Rielly and Gardiner |

Why wouldn't Montreal give Subban 5+ mil, why wouldn't the Stars give Benn 6 mil? Why wouldn't the Bruins give Kessel 5.5 mil? Guys coming off their rookie deals. - AdamFrench
So let's say the Leafs make the deal for him. They still have to sign him and he'll still want his 5mill, no? |

This is the issue though - is O'rielly really a number 1 center?
You know - upon his arrival - he immediately become a number 2 at best, right? |

Can we end these O'Rielly talks? He is not the answer, we will never win a cup with him. He is a plug, a slight improvement on Bozak if any. |

What has Gardiner or Reilly proved? Just being devils advocate. - A_Tree
Gardiner has proved he has excellent puck-moving/point producing potential as an NHL defenseman. Rielly has proved that he's a really good Junior defenseman. |

ottawa cup run being crushed. |

but with rielly gardiner becomes expendable
cant have a back end full of PMDs.. not under carlyle. someone will have to be eventually moved.
gardiner had 30 points in 70 some odd games last year and everyone talks about him like he's the second coming of bobby orr.
i think leaf fans might be over-valuing him just a touch - Dozzer
I disagree one guy plays on the top line the other on the second line, pair each guy with stay at home partner and that seems to work just fine

true, they are both full of potential but those special offensively gifted defense men are harder to come by than a 6 ft 200lb center man who isn't know for having soft hands and projects to be more of a MIke Peca rather than a Mike Modano |

I'm a big fan of his game. I don't think it's worth trading valuable assets for an unsigned player who might just continue sitting out awaiting his big payday. |
